Long drive back from holiday.
Luckily we have friends about half way so 3:30 driving, 3 hours lunching and 3 more hours driving.
B was greek yoghurt and seeds
L: ham, salad, cheese and half a peach
D: 2 hard boiled eggs, pack of chicken scratchings . Tiny bit of a Twix

Hi all, hope everyone well and having a good week Bit of a mixed one here. Retinopathy eye exam fine and diabetic review all good. Not my usual nurse but got a pat on the head and bloods excellent so she couldn’t get me on statins :) No appts for a year now which is a bit scary but touch wood finding the new lifestyle good and the results speak for themselves. I am sure all of you will keep me on the straight and narrow.
On the downside,a friend of ours has a really awful cancer diagnosis which has really shaken us, you just never know what is around the corner. In the spirit of that and carpe diem etc hubby has booked a ticket to see Bruce Springsteen which he was debating about as quite pricey so we will have a weekend in London next week.
Have a good weekend everyone and sunshine if you have it.
A pat on the head? Really? @sue21. Sounds condescending.
Oh well, your results are darn good. Well done you!

Congratulations on your results from annual review- it is odd when you move to just yearly tests because of good control after having had reassurance of regular reviews. I'm sure you test regularly yourself though? I test and record my fasting bloods and weight every morning and keep a personal record so I can spot if any changes to my normal and can look at why. For example at moment my bgs are up but I've got a tummy bug so that explains it. I also test if trying something new and more regularly if concerned. Having said this I would also request an additional test if I spotted bloods going upwards rather than wait the yearly test schedule I'm on - as a patient in remission and no meds
Sorry to hear about your friends diagnosis as you say you have to seize the moment and make the most. Our anniversary plans had to be postponed due to a tummy bug this weekend but hopefully back to full health in a day or so.

Sounded like a lovely holiday and good timing with the weather too. Hope you're over your bug ? We've got a tummy bug here but think it's improving just a shame 're timing as we had to postpone our Anniversary celebrations but that's bugs!

Thank you, yes I do test and keep an eye on things, I will definitely keep on with that going forward. I am lucky that I love the food involved in this lifestyle and really not missing the carbs., long may it continue.
Hope you feel better soon and can celebrate your anniversary.

Yes, all better, still think it was covid related, so lethargic. So sorry for your tummy bug :(. Am sure the delayed celebrations will make up in time

We seem to have more than our fair share of respiratory infections circulating here in London @MrsA2 and some of those can be very debilitating. A recent concert was marred by persistent coughing all through the performance.

There are also some gastric flu type virus infections doing the rounds @shelley262 that we just don't expect in Summer.

Schools break up for the holidays next week. Perhaps that will help to bring down infection rates.

Chatting to a neighbour today (who I hadn't seen for several weeks) turns out he, who is never ill, was poorly while away and tested covid positive, his wife stayed well and their host "had a faint line".
at least it doesn't seem to have the severe complications and death rates and is just another flu type thing.
I had it quite bad but hubby, our host and their daughter had very mild symptoms and only for a few days

Any how all over now.
Cooking for family this evening. We've all been off on adventures so looking forward to lots of chat and news. Roast pork, carrots, cabbage, slow cooked celery (with boiled new potatoes for the carb eaters). Tiramisu and /or blackberries for dessert. I know which our 88 hear old T2 denyer will have! :D

Yes, friends of ours tested positive recently @MrsA2. Both reckoned the symptoms were less severe than suffered during their first bout of COVID in 2020 and certainly they've recovered more quickly.

Stressful morning dealing with relatives, one who has severe mental health issues, so missed breakfast entirely.
Rushed out for coffee with friends to be offered real brownies and shortbread by my favorite, cutest 4 year old. Couldn't refuse her!!! Had 4 "bite" size.

Lunch was cheese on 2 slices livlife bread.

Dinner has been cold pork with a hash of leftover veg and 1 new potato. A portion of tiramisu.

Yes, I realise writing this I've had too many carbs past 2 days. It stops here!
I do find reporting my daily food helps me.

But where's everyone else? We seem to be missing several regular posters. Are you all on holiday? @Antje77 @maglil55 @shelley262 @DJC3 and more

Hiya I'm not away just had a tummy bug so limited food but back to normal today and listed my food for today in the main thread. I have had a few days off hands on caring although lots of emotional support given via what's app and phone as didn't want to pass the bug on. I've loved having a bit of a rest and even watched a few films. Back to it today though doing shopping, laundry and cooking etc ready for a hands on caring day tomorrow.

I've still been reading, but it's been crazy busy times here!
A week ago I had the neurologist appointment for an EMG test on my arm. Today I had the follow up appointment. I was very curious what the next steps would be, I already saw the test results online and it looked like the tests haven't found the cause for the issues with my arm. Turns out the next step will be an MRI of my shoulder and neck to see if this shows a cause.
In the mean time, the neurologist has advised to take it easy and not do things when it's clear those not functioning muscles try to do something but refuse, even if it doesn't hurt. Very unhappy with this but I'll try. And I contacted the gym on my yearlong subscription. They were very nice and immediately agreed to put my subscription on hold for the next 3 months and add this time again at the end of the year.

Astrid, our friend down the road has finally decided to leave her husband, so on thursday Tale and I visited her to make a plan to pick up her stuff from the ship her husband is sailing on.
We had pizza, I ate almost a whole pizza for the first time in 8 years and miraculously dosed perfectly for it, no spikes, no lows, nothing! If only I knew how I pulled that off...

On friday we went to the ship to collect her things, very stressful, some drama, but we managed to avoid major explosions. On the way back we went for a swim, Tale joined in for the first time. :) Our swimming stuff was buried under all the stuff we brought from the ship so we went skinny dipping. Right when the three of us were naked and ready to get into the water, someone walked by, very funny, good thing the passer by didn't care at all. :hilarious:
Back at Astrids place there already were a lot of family members in preparation for her birthday party on saturday, and we all had chips and kroketten. No such luck with dosing as the day before, but sometimes life just happens.

On saturday Tale and I went to help an elderly friend of his with her garden in the heat.
After that we had this amazing birthday party for Astrid, and I went home at 6:30 am, on Tales fatbike because he had fallen asleep on the couch while trying to say goodnight to Astrid. I also took his dog with me because I wasn't sure if he was allowed in the living room.
Food was easy, barbecue, so I had mainly meat and salad. :)

On sunday we were invited for a second barbecue because there was so much leftover meat. Tale left earlyish because work, I stayed later, didn't feel like taking Astrids bike again (It's a racing bike with a racing saddle, I'd already used it multiple times this week, and it hurts!), so I spent the night with Astrid. I wouldn't normally because my basal insulin was at home, but seeing as I took yesterdays dose at around 7 am, I figured a couple more hours late today wouldn't make a difference. Woke up at 9:30, had a coffee, went back home and took my basal at 10:30 or so, BG has been fine today. :)

After that it was the neurologist, and at 6:30 tonight Astrid, I and another friend went to the cremation of a colleague skipper who very suddenly died from a bleed in the brain last week.
Very touching speeches by his close to adult children, and over 400 people attending.
After the ceremony everyone grouped outside for beer, a very good get together and I've spoken with at least 20 former colleagues, many who I hadn't seen in 15 years or longer.
They even managed to have a band (led by yet another colleague skipper) play outside at the crematorium in the corner usually meant for smokers, and people were dancing barefoot and everything!

It lasted until 9:30, and we went to Astrids place for the 5th day in a row to eat, after pickig up Tale.
She had made an easy Morrocan tajine dish which did contain cubed pieces of potato but it was easy to avoid most of those and only have a single bite of the bread she served it with.

So @MrsA2 , life has been ugly, wonderful, sad, frustrating, fun, and very, very busy.

The coconut mixed with the cauliflower rice seemed to work. No deleterious effects at all and the meal was quite enjoyable. There was almost the same amount again left so I had that with a fried egg on top for breakfast. There's still quite a lot of the cauliflower/coconut mixture left as well so I'll put that into the freezer and use it another time.

I don't normally like cod but saw a recipe suggestion a few days ago using cod with orange and some spices which I quite liked the idea of so asked Neil to get some cod for me yesterday and will try that out for today's 2nd meal.

@ANTJE, missed your stories, but glad you weren't ill. Hope the arm soon improves.
Thank you!
I'm afraid it will turn out to be something lasting a longer time but you never know. :)

Fow now, according to the letter the neurologist sent to my GP (which is added to my online portal as well), the main suspects are plexopathy of the plexus brachialis; polyradiculopathy from the neck, possibly related to diabetes, or painless amyotrophic neuralgia. (I translated those from the Dutch versions of the words by guessing so those things may be called something slightly different in English.)

As for stories, turkeys are very, very stupid, and I'm utterly amazed that they sometimes even manage to raise their young!
Today one of the turkey moms in the garden decided it was a good idea to take her 5 days old chicks for a walk right in the middle of the road!
She refused to be herded or coaxed to take her chicks back in through the gate and hid in the thick nettles next to my house. I did manage to shoo them farther away from the road on the side where she escaped the garden so hopefully she's gone back in by now.

I'm pretty bothered by this. I've been more active this past year, and I feel better for it, both physically and mentally. So having to stop the gym, and cutting down on everyday physical activities isn't something I'm happy about. Especially because my tuesday and friday aqua sessions will only restart in 6 weeks, after the summer holiday.
But I decides that yesterday was for feelling sorry for myself after the appointment, today is for solutions! :joyful:

I slept very long after all the goings on and short nights during the past week, and decided to go for a swim right away. Brewed coffee, fed the guinea pigs, and drove off, having my first cup of coffee in the car. Stopped by Astrid on the way to ask if she was in for a swim so we went together. :)

So now my idea is to keep this up and try to make it my morning routine to swim right after waking up.
Sharing here for accountability, I'll feel quite embarrassed if I'll have you tell you tomorrow that I didn't go with some weak excuse. With all of you knowing, chances of actually doing what I told myself are a little better...

Please don't hesitate to sternly tell me to go swimming every once in a while, maybe it helps! :hilarious:

Sounds like an excellent solution to go swimming regularly especially as you are feeling a bit miffed about having to step back from other forms of exercise that put your affected muscles under too much stress. Swimming is such a good all round exercise and you clearly have lots of fun doing it - so good for physical and mental well being so an excellent target to aim for. Could you have a word with your aqua instructor to devise a work around any exercises that use the area you have to avoid putting under stress?
Lovely to read your stories again of your busy life and tell those Turkeys to grow a few brain cells!

Caring day today so out much of the day
Breakfast before going out of kefir then a few green tomatoes cooked in some olive oil and served on low carb toast
Dinner left over chicken with salads and glass of well earnt chilled dry white wine. Followed by sugar free jelly and cream.
Need to go through the statins or not discussion with Husband George this evening. He had his annual review a week ago ( one pre diabetes result about five years ago and high blood pressure at the review so he's on annual testing) all good results for last four years with no meds and blood pressure fine now too - but of course they don't like his cholesterol figure which is up mainly because his HDL has gone up - I believe this is his daily fish oils which weve added in and has improved his cognition and depression so much. I was getting very concerned about his cognition 18 months ago. They sent him a message after results in that he needed to talk to their pharmacist to start statins asap it's not my decision I know but I don't want him to be pushed into them especially as there is some evidence about link with statins and cognition issues for some people. I also know statins reduce LDL so why should he take them when rise is total because of HDL? Wish me luck the pharmacist is ringing first thing tomorrow to sort out his prescription!
