"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

So you've had to postpone your holiday in Italy? @shelley262. That's rotten luck.

If it's any consolation, Italy is said to be bracing itself for thunderstorms and yet more heavy rain this week, so perhaps you've had a lucky escape!

Hope you will be back to normal and can contemplate another break soon.

Lovely sunshine at the moment here. Off to a second house viewing with our daughter, getting ready to buy their first house so that will be fun.
 
More cauliflower cheese for breakfast. I really enjoyed it yesterday and no ill effects. Just a tiny portion left now.

Today is the day for making my lamb's offal terrine although to be honest I'm not really feeling up to doing anything, but it must be done before it all goes off.

Planning for lamb tagine for 2nd meal - it's in the fridge ready to go, so should be no problem there.

The chicken biriyani went down well yesterday - everyone was amazed at the existence of "rice" made with chickpeas and really enjoyed them.
 
Banksie has gone to his new home in Elgin. Em and her mum went on the very early morning freight ferry and will have an overnight stay in Inverness before heading home tomorrow. Hugo is reported to already be behaving better now that he is on his own (Ruler of the Roost). We can only hope that Banksie does well in his new home.

So far, so good with the offal. It's all chopped up and soaking in vinegar water. Just about finished me off doing it, but with several rest breaks, I've got it done. Next thing is to drain it in a while and then bring it to the boil in some fresh water. The recipe I am using is ROMANIAN DROB DE MIEL, which I found online and looks suitable and fairly low carb if I replace the 2 slices of white bread with another filler to hold it together. I'm thinking of some chickpea rice, some of which I overcooked yesterday and had to set aside before cooking a whole new batch.

My holiday has started with a sailing weekend, and after yesterdays storm, the weather was pretty good for sailing today.
We have a German group of about 16 people, family amd friends, and I even convinced two of them to join me for a swim next to the ship this morning.

Sorry to disappoint, Rosemary. It's a commercial product and not really rice at all. It's really a kind of tiny pasta made with chickpea flour. Not rice, but pretty good as part of a savoury dish and lower in carbs than rice. I'm thinking of trying to make pasta with chickpea flour myself. Watch this space.

Don't hold your breath though because I can't do much with my left hand at present. Not serious but a bit restrictive. Unlike your bronchitis, that can be nasty, and obviously was for you. Get much better very, very soon. Thanks for the hug and you're right, getting old isn't a whole lot of fun - especially when your brain tells you you are about 26. Doesn't compute though - Neil is coming up on 58 and Alistair 56. Couldn't have had them when I was minus 22 and minus 20!
 
Breakfast was the last of the cauliflower cheese.

2nd meal will be fish with chickpea rice and curry sauce. Made it last night and it's ready just to heat up today.

I did finish the terrine yesterday. Turned out pretty well but is a bit heavy on the liver flavour - another time I'll keep some of the liver back to make liver and bacon and reduce the amount in the terrine. Kept 2 slices out and put the rest in the freezer.

EDIT: The cauliflower cheese wasn't enough to keep me going so I had some raspberries and cream to keep me going.
EDIT AGAIN: then I didn't feel like eating much by the time I should have had my 2nd meal, so just had 4 strawberries and left it at that.

Yesterday
B: 2 scrambled eggs with cream cheese

Then our long walk. Was actually about 2 hours walking and an hours sitting. Glorious sunshine and views. 2 stops one for coffee ( and cake for hubby) one for lunch on the beach, sandwich for him and a large (130g weight) piece of brie for me, both bought at a farm shop.
Was a level walk (which is a rare find in this area) but I was so tired when we got back. Spent most of the afternoon trying to stay awake.

D: final night in the pub. Shared 1 fishcake starter, then curry with peas instead if rice (but I left most the peas, not my favourite) but I did eat 2 small naans to mop up all the sauce. Then (look away now) we shared a brownie sundae. Each time we've been in we've smelled the wonderful chocolate aromas as they bake the brownies fresh and tonight we caved. Usually I'd have a couple of mouthfuls and stop as too sweet, but this was wonderful and we scraped the dish clean.
1 white wine
Later at home 1 Scotch.
Back to normality tomorrow (but only for 4 days as away again next weekend!)

Today
No breakfast (trying to atone for last night's pud.)
Said goodbye to our dog friends, packed up and drove 5 hours home. Sunny but windy.
L: 2 boiled eggs, a mini pork pie, a nut bar (all of the move)

Was weird coming home to a house without a cat (remember we lost our old boy 7 weeks ago). No one to welcome us.

D: beef bourginon with green beans and spinach. The main was a frozen ready meal from Cook. About the best as regards clean ingredients and fairly low carb. I keep a couple in the freezer for emergencies, such as today. Had been planning a cheese and cracker fest of all the local cheese we brought back with us, but needed something hot and comforting instead.
 
A gamble, but fingers crossed Banksie settles down well in his new home @Annb.

Agreed @RosemaryJackson and @Annb. Retirement is great if you have your health, but once the body's components start to wear out. life feels like one long round of medical outpatient appointments!
(stay as you are @Antje77and you'll be fine).

Thankfully, ageing happens so slowly and imperceptibly, most of us are unaware of it.

Yes,was a lovely day, fun looking at houses,it’s 24yrs since we last moved so it was interesting. They still liked the house on second viewing so will put an offer in.
Had lunch at a Wetherspoons whilst we were out and about.Not our usual choice but with two vegans, a gluten free and a low carber, there were options for all of us I had a chicken and bacon salad which was fine.
Hope all doing well, another very wet day here, inside jobs it is.
