"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Sounds like you will be well ready for a holiday and an escape from stress @Antje77. Lists definitely the way to go, as long as you have the essentials and having the car no weight limits to worry about,we are pretty well stocked over here if you forget anything!
Our lovely neighbour gave me a huge bowl of green tomatoes yesterday so going to try making a low carbish soup and thinking fried with an almond crust. Enjoying getting back in to cooking more now it’s time to move away from salads.

Bits and pieces for breakfast: remains of cauli salad from last evening, a couple of RyVita with goat's butter (and a hint of pineapple jam! Tut!) with tea.

2nd meal: probably some of the tagine I made yesterday - the only other option is cauliflower cheese and that might be too much of a risk after all the raw cauli I've had yesterday and today.

Neil hasn't felt up to shopping yet, but I am hopeful that he'll be OK tomorrow so he can drop me at the health centre for my legs and do the shopping.

Enjoy your holiday Antje. Hope the weather holds for you - it's been a bit wet of late and some places are still under water. Try not to be like my MIL when we tried to teach her to drive (many years ago). She was often confused about where she should be on the road and tended to stick to the middle, mesmerised by white lines. When we pointed out that there were other cars wanting to use the roads as well, she just said, "They'll just have to get out of my way." She never even got around to sitting her test!

This makes perfect sense for frequent travellers, but my last holiday was two years ago when I went camping in the UK as well. :hilarious:
Amazingly, I even found part of my packing list from two years ago, written pen on paper in a note block I don't use all that much but which lives next to my couch nonetheless.
I soothe myself by repeatedly whispering to myself that you can buy toothpaste, blankets, underwear, campingaz cartridges, or about anything else you forgot right in the UK, just make sure to not forget diabetes stuff, a flashlight, tent, a well deserved beer for after arriving and putting up a tent in the dark, and something to eat, nothing suitable on the ferry.
Boots saved my booty twice this last visit to London, for non-diabetes-related things, and they're absolutely everywhere... So even if you do forget diabetes paraphernalia, I'm sure they can help. Did you know, there are honest-to-god diabetics in the UK?! They just let them roam! ;)

You'll be okay. And though it's all stressful, all this traveling, it's certain to keep your mind occupied, as your heart mends. People are difficult, but without them life'd be quite empty, eh. (Been there, done that, got worse off because of it.) And at the same time, you're also moving into this new phase where you're not as much in a dark place, mentally, as you were... Even with these setbacks you're still doing alright, right? I know traveling took on a whole new dimension for me now, I'm hoping fervently it'll be the same for you. Something that'll prop you up, I hope...

And for the sake of the thread: "We Care" low-carb crackers with coconut oil and low carb chocolate sprinkles for breakfast, beef strips for lunch, with a dash of coconut jog with blueberries for dessert. Yes, I felt like having dessert after lunch. Sue me. ;)

Currently packing my diabetes stuff, so hopefully no need for Boots to save me. Packing boots as well now, they can come in handy in the North of England in October, thanks for the reminder!

I am!

Yes. I love making lists too @sueh21. There's something so satisfying about adding each item and then crossing off those that have been found! :hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious:

Yes, I thought you'd cracked that one @Antje77. Still, you don't want to be too perfect. Youi'll only make the rest of us feel inadequate.
I wish I had the vocabulary of a native speaker, and have it ready at hand in my head, I'll never reach that level of adequacy. I don't mind taking pictures or having my sentences run in a funny way sometimes, I just wish I had all the words!

I used to work with lists, guided by anxiety. But apparently things are different this year. So while I do have a very incomplete and rather random list, I haven't really looked at it, and I did a lot of wild packing today, jumping from teststrips to underwear or tent pegs (?), two tubs of teststrips still in my hand.
I think I have all my diabetes stuff, and I'm pretty sure I have everything I need for my tent.

Tomorrow my cleaner will come and I've sent her a text message yesterday to ask if she could spare some extra time because of packing stress. She is the best, she didn't tell me how much extra time she had but simply told me to stop worrying and everything will be fine tomorrow, we'll pack! Which was exactly the mum type message I needed.

It's hard work learning a language @Antje77 but you're doing so well. I'm constantly amazed at the breadth and depth of your vocabulary and the number of English idioms you've managed to learn in a comparatively short time is staggering.

Neil found some lamb's offal in the supermarket today so I now have a lot of lambs' kidneys, lambs' hearts and lambs' liver and now have to find something to use all that offal. I'm glad he bought it though - makes a change and encourages the shop to stock it. Liver will be no problem but I wonder if I could make some kind of terrine with the hearts and kidneys.

EDIT: Not today though. Leg bandaging done and sent to the optician to pick up my new glasses and I'm completely done in! Need some food and then some sleep.

A quiet day today avoiding the rain showers.
B: 2 hardboiled eggs with a bit of cream cheese
Dog walk, hilly and wet
L: another of the nuttery things I bought yesterday. Although tasty they were quite expensive at £4:00 each! Some cheese, some ham, couple of tomatoes. Mini icecream.
A second dog walk, drier, shorter and flatter.
D: at pub. Very good pheasant terrine as starter, shared with hubby. Very meaty and filling. He had all the chutney, and unusually it wasn't served with any bread or crackers so an lc win.
Main was fish pie, where I tried to leave most of the mash top. 1 glass white wine with lots of soda.
We skipped a pub pud but back at home split a lidl profiterole pot between us, he had 2/3rds ie 2, I had 1. With extra double cream

Previous post was yesterday - it got stuck for some reason

Today
B: full fat greek with chopped brazils, chocolate and seeds
A short dog walk, then a drive
L: ham and cream cheese lettuce wraps, cheddar cheese. A nut bar and 4 brazil nuts
Finally some sunshine so a 90 minutes coastal walk with the dogs, who were very confused as the rain has upset their routine.
D: 4 chipolata sausages with red pepper and 2 scrambled eggs. 1 profiteroles (like last night) works out at 11 g carbs.
2 glasses wine.

Breakfast was cauliflower cheese. It was there and ready to heat through so why not?

Going out for a "pot-luck" meal this evening and am taking chicken biriyani made with chickpea rice. At least I can eat that myself. Chicken is marinating at the moment, rice is part cooked and onions are done, ready for the spices and chicken to be added. So far, so good.

Yum, your meals today sound lovely :)
Made a big pot of green tomato soup that worked out at 5g carbs per portion,it’s got courgettes and a bag of rocket in it as well. Third day today so will be glad to finish it.
Chilli con carne for dinner.
Hope everyone has survived the horrendous rain and flooding. Have a good weekend all.

Just a quick note to say that I am thinking of you all - reading when I can and enjoying all of your news. Life is just a bit busy atm. Should be on holiday with husband in Italy this week but had to do last minute cancellation. I'm fine but have family health issues that I'm sure will be sorted soon. Husband has skin cancer removal operation due on Sunday. Looking forward to getting back to normal selves and 're booking our next holiday!

B: 2 hard boiled eggs with mayo and ham.
Then, as our holiday comes to an end on Sunday, we went exploring a bit further afield, and it was dry!
A late lunch in a cafe of tomato and lentil soup and half a cheese scone (least bad option on the menu). Hubby and I did have a discussion about how we must start sharing meals, both for our waistlines and our wallets. Neither of us needed the size of portion we were served. At least we walked either side of it.
D: will be finishing up bits of cheese and eggs. And wine to finish up

Tomorrow we are planning a long walk with a cafe halfway (3 hours maybe?) Then a final night pub meal.

I agree with you on the sharing a meal plan. Our problem is we like very different foods, but very often a bought portion is far too much for one.
