I make it at Christmas (a low carb version). Recipe is on my CMT but here's the link.It is £10 a litre in Tescos.
I resisted!!!
I've been experimenting with a recipe for sole veronique. On my CMT but again here's the link.Resisted breakfast as knew we would be lunching out.
l: halibut in a creamy dill sauce with crayfish tails. Nice but pricey and not a patch on the haddock at a different pub earlier in the week. And twice as expensive! 1 glass red wine.
Luckily we were spending vouchers we'd won in a quiz earlier in the month so don't pay full amount.
Had 3 spoons of hubby's cherry bakewell suet pudding.
Then I walked home , about 50 minutes up and over the hill while he drove to a meeting. Lovely colours in the woods and crunchy leaves underfoot.
D: 2 hard boiled eggs with mayo, 3 slices salami and soem fermented green peppers.
Christmas confession. I'd bought a lidl version of coffee flavoured Baileys for Christmas, but we/he opened it to try to make sure it was up to standard. Yes it is, but oh so drinkable. No idea of carbs. To make it last to Christmas I think it may have to go stay at son's who can bring it back with him.
There's temptation everywhere at the moment. How do you all resist?
There's something in my mind about a Hairy Biker tip for poached eggs. I think it was @Annb that mentioned it.I've never managed to get swirling water to work, especially with multiple eggs..
One way is to half fill a mug with cold water, then drop raw egg in and microwave 2 minutes. But sometimes it doesn't work so well, maybe it's the temperature or the age of the egg? I feel some experimentation coming on.
Oh yes. I'd forgotten that. It was a Dave Myers tip. There's something in my mind about a Hairy Biker tip for poached eggs. I think it was @Annb that mentioned it.
It was the traditional way of poaching (with a dash of ACV, slow simmer, swirl etc) but before you got to that you put the egg, in its shell, into boiling water for 20 seconds. Then out and into normal poach.
Congratulations on (and to) a brilliant grandson.Well that worked out well trying to be better posting! I was slowly being driven do lally with everything I had to do. I eventually decided the break in Stirling was not enough, and advised hubby we were going to York in the October school holidays. First thing I did once hotel & train was booked, was to book my favourite restaurant in York - Rustique. I had escargot to start followed by a wonderful monkfish dish (photo below) which had a white cannellini bean sauce. I had one bit of the potato that came with it. Hubby managed to avoid A&E but I did my left leg having forgotten the number of flights of stairs in the Castle Museum. I could not move the following morning. It took some hard work with a deep tissue massager to loosen the joints and muscles. I still needed assistance. I still enjoyed my trip to York.
The rest of my time has been tied up with tutoring and trying to get on top of things for Christmas. There just doesn't seem to be enough time!
My youngest grandson has been competing again. Apart from the grading, he participated in the club championships and got 4 gold medals and a bronze! Golds were in breaststroke, backstroke, fly and individual medley. Bronze was freestyle and his goggles snapped when diving in but he recovered and got the bronze. To cap it all, he was presented with Top Boy in his group. I've posted his photos as Mum put them on social media.
I've got many, many posts to look at, especially one about an "axe man"??? View attachment 70760View attachment 70761View attachment 70762
That halibut and crayfish dish sounds wonderful @MrsA2, but unfortunately halibut is becoming very expensive. in some recipes haddock achieves the result you want and it is underrated IMO.Resisted breakfast as knew we would be lunching out.

You're certainly not alone, temptations abound @MrsA2 and it's going to get worse next month.Christmas confession. Sounds as though you've been having a good time. Glad to hear it.It's been way too long so just a quick check in to let you all know that I'm perfectly fine and have eaten well!
Last weekend was full of family stuff with lots of food. On saturday I had mussels (lots of them) at my aunt and uncle's house with some 16 family members. Very easy to plate the good stuff from the sides of the salads and avoid the potato-y part in the middle so the main carbs came from a delicious but sweet dipping sauce to go with the mussels.
And from the dessert...
I had a very small portion of some type of caramel icecream with apples and cinnamon, and some of the amazing merengue with lemon curd. Both were made by my cousin, who was smart enough to combine a dessert needing lots of yolks with one needing lots of egg whites. Very much worth having some interesting graphs on my Libre, and back on track before bed.
Next day was lunch at another aunt's place with over 20 people, mostly friends of her.
Different types of smoked fish, shrimp, lots of good cheese, leg of lamb, a sauerkraut dish, can't remember what else but i was very diabetes friendly provided I skipped the bread and the dessert. Which I didn't, but portion control went much better than the day before so all was well!
Another date has been had yesterday, with a very enjoyable evening in the mud bath my garden is at the moment. We managed to get a fire going with very wet firewood (and half a bottle of lamp oil), grilled spareribs, then grilled some skewers with salami, onion and bell pepper which I sadly dropped in the mud when trying to plate them.
This one wasn't married, boring, or psychotic at least, and we both enjoyed the evening, but no attraction whatsoever from both sides so back home he went.
Oh well, this dating thing does wonders for cleaning my house which is a definite win, and I'll see what the next one will bring.
In the mean time I'm still trying to work out what to do about work or maybe some education, and of course it's almost Sinterklaas so my living room is filled with paper mache vegetables that need to dry, and poems will have to be written.
