Best check if they're the slow release/gastric resistant ones before halving them, if they are, it would make them "instant release" by removing the coating. If they're not slow release you could ask for those instead - they're supposed to be gentler on your stomach.Metformin tablets at the moment but maybe they are available in a smaller dose, or perhaps I could just chop them in half
Ah. Good point. They are slow release ones, so the effect would be rather spoiled if I do chop them in half. I'll try to find out if they are available in a smaller dose. Meantime, I might take one every second day and see if that helps.Best check if they're the slow release/gastric resistant ones before halving them, if they are, it would make them "instant release" by removing the coating. @Annb, please share, what was your bg before the walnuts? (how many did you have)? and then it dropped to the 4s - do you eat then at a particular time of day or anytime? xAh. Good point. That was about an hour ago, and I forgot to click on "Post". Meantime, I decided to try walnuts again. Pecans don't really make a difference, but hey presto! Walnuts do. BG dropped right down into the 4s in minutes. Whatever I do about Metformin, walnuts are going to have to be part of the answer.
If memory serves me, on that day I had taken my basal dose of insulin, then before breakfast, a bolus dose, sufficient to cover the carbs in the RyVita and Dairylea breakfast. BG at that point was 10.2 before breakfast and 10.4 about 90+ minutes later. Then I had the walnut bits - total about 3 walnuts and within minutes BG had started to drop, ending in the 4's later in the day.@Annb, please share, what was your bg before the walnuts? I think there is a storm on the way too - hope it isn't too strong up there with you.Breakfast: chicken and leek soup with 2 RyVitas. Coffee.
2nd meal has to be some more of the chicken from Monday. Probably chicken mayo with some salad.
Our heating is on - actually it doesn't go off but we set the thermostat low so that it doesn't kick in. I put the thermostat up by one degree (from 17 to 18) and it kicks in quite often. Outside is a bit chillier and there's a breeze to make it feel colder.
All quiet at the moment but I hear that storm Ada (or is it Amy) is on the way. Might be disruptive tomorrow but so far so good.I think there is a storm on the way too - hope it isn't too strong up there with you.
Off to do some garden work now, must keep on top of things and at least make a start on the next little section in my taming of the wilderness rotation! I do small sections rather than the whole lot, so the birds and wildlife have plenty of sanctuary and are not disturbed too much. Not that I could do the whole lot in one go anyway, so that's known as serendipity!
