Happy new year everyone!

I found the courage to cook a proper meal, despite the traditional hangover. Sauerkraut mash. So I thawed a piece of pork belly, made cauliflower purée, wanted to add the sauerkraut but it had gone off. :(
Granted, the date on the package was 31 dec 2025, how did they know? :hilarious:

Shops are closed so no idea what my evening meal will be. Used up my cooking courage so I expect it'll be a LC sandwich and finish the sauerkraut tomorrow.

Hoping you are feeling better this New Years Eve and that 2026 is a good year for you.
There seems to be so many bugs around - I hope yours is retreating into the rear mirror!
All the best for a peaceful, healthy and content 2026.
I'm feeling much better, it didn't really amount to more than a couple of days thankfully!

I hope 2026 is a great year for you too!

Breakfast: more of the frittata/cheesecake from yesterday.

2nd meal will be steak with baked onion and tomato. The steak is much bigger than I had realised so it will do for more than one meal - possibly even 3.

Sitting here on my desk, I have a packet of a spice called mahlab. I bought it for a recipe but can't remember what the recipe was and no longer have any idea what to do with it. Any ideas anyone?
Now that sounds delicious! Google AI says

Mahlab (or Mahleb) is an aromatic spice from the ground seed kernels of the St. Lucie cherry, offering a unique flavor of bitter almond, cherry, and floral notes, used extensively in Middle Eastern, Greek, and Armenian baking for sweet breads, cakes, and pastries.

I might have to get some!
