Metformin tablets at the moment but maybe they are available in a smaller dose, or perhaps I could just chop them in half
Best check if they're the slow release/gastric resistant ones before halving them, if they are, it would make them "instant release" by removing the coating. If they're not slow release you could ask for those instead - they're supposed to be gentler on your stomach.

Ah. Good point. They are slow release ones, so the effect would be rather spoiled if I do chop them in half. I'll try to find out if they are available in a smaller dose. Meantime, I might take one every second day and see if that helps.

That was about an hour ago, and I forgot to click on "Post". Meantime, I decided to try walnuts again. Pecans don't really make a difference, but hey presto! Walnuts do. BG dropped right down into the 4s in minutes. Whatever I do about Metformin, walnuts are going to have to be part of the answer.

Another not low carb day, it featured cheese at breakfast and corned beef with vegetables from the garden for tea. I'll leave the rest to your imagination, I don't want to make people envious! :hilarious: Although I'm the envious one, I wish I had better control. My excuse at the moment is using up my hoard of cupboard and freezer things that will expire soon, but I have poor control a lot of the time anyway, hence the medications for which I am very grateful.

The carrots I sowed in July are giving a great little harvest at the moment, I'm going to roast some tomorrow with the first swede and a teeny tiny celeriac or two! I noticed the swedes in the supermarket are very small this year, I wonder if that is due to the heatwaves.

Woke later than usual but just couldn't shake off the grogginess - no surprise after a week of less than even my normal 3-4 hour nights and no possibility of laying down at all. BG in the 7's despite walnuts, so - jury still out after all. May just be related to the lack of sleep.

Breakfast: Ham and cheese on RyVita. Coffee. Only just finished it - actually still drinking the coffee.

2nd meal has to be slow cooked lamb shoulder with mixed vegetables (including a sweet potato).

Sausage and egg for breakfast, not sure about tea yet. I am feeling lazy and unproductive today, so I haven't yet harvested the vegetables to roast.

@Annb, slow cooked lamb has to be one of the best meats going! Sounds delicious.

Scrambled eggs on RyVita for breakfast. Coffee.

2nd meal will be the rest of the lamb shoulder (it was only a little piece) made into a tagine - dumped the original veg and have added some onion and some tomato - just realised that I forgot the fruity element but never mind. It's in the oven ready to go.

The slow cooked lamb shoulder was good yesterday - apart from the sweet potato which I didn't like at all.

Just put a whole chicken in to poach. That will provide several days of meals from tomorrow onwards.

A small bowl of the remaining tagine for breakfast today. I forgot the fruit element, but it was still very good. Tagine made with lamb is very tasty.

2nd meal will be spiced chicken with cauliflower and coconut rice. Chicken is cooked and needs a spicy sauce to reheat it, cauliflower just needs to be blitzed and toasted with some coconut. Should be easy enough, if I can muster the energy. Another 3 hours in the chair instead of bed doesn't help. BG is a bit high today - probably tiredness.

@Annb, please share, what was your bg before the walnuts? (how many did you have)? and then it dropped to the 4s - do you eat then at a particular time of day or anytime? x

Breakfast seems a long time ago now, but it was a bowl of branflakes with half a banana, eaten outdoors by the pond. In fact I think the bowl’s still out there, must go and look before night’s completely fallen.

A day out today with friends, fasted until midday and then had a piece of my friend's millionaire's shortbread (be rude not to, right?)

Later had some fish fingers and swede (from the supermarket) mash. And some other things I won't mention!

I need to tidy and clean the kitchen, it's a bomb site. That's on the to do list for tomorrow, along with planting the elephant garlic which arrived today!

If memory serves me, on that day I had taken my basal dose of insulin, then before breakfast, a bolus dose, sufficient to cover the carbs in the RyVita and Dairylea breakfast. BG at that point was 10.2 before breakfast and 10.4 about 90+ minutes later. Then I had the walnut bits - total about 3 walnuts and within minutes BG had started to drop, ending in the 4's later in the day.

I don't really eat at a specific time - sometimes before 9 am, sometimes not until 12. That day, I think was about 8 am.

I should add that I have tried the same thing on other days, with no noticeable effect. There is some other element that I am missing.

I'm still not eating low carb, but I am eating real food more than junk at the moment, so that's a little win.

It's a good day for the garden today so I'm getting the lawn cut again, I thought last time would actually be the last time for this year but it's got quite long again. I'll also shred some branches from cutting back hedges and trees, so the compost heap will have a balanced green/brown ratio.

Tea will be fried fish with sweet peppers from the polytunnel - I think that will be the last of those now.

Brrr! Chilly again today. I'm resisting putting the heating on though.

I had cottage cheese with spring onions, tomatoes and lettuce from the garden, half a bread roll and then some other stuff for breakfast.

Tea is another fish fillet, fried with sweet peppers, and some roasted vegetables from the garden.

Breakfast: chicken and leek soup with 2 RyVitas. Coffee.

2nd meal has to be some more of the chicken from Monday. Probably chicken mayo with some salad.

Our heating is on - actually it doesn't go off but we set the thermostat low so that it doesn't kick in. I put the thermostat up by one degree (from 17 to 18) and it kicks in quite often. Outside is a bit chillier and there's a breeze to make it feel colder.

I think there is a storm on the way too - hope it isn't too strong up there with you.

All quiet at the moment but I hear that storm Ada (or is it Amy) is on the way. Might be disruptive tomorrow but so far so good.

Breakfast: more leek and chicken soup with RyVita. Coffee.

2nd meal will be avocado salad - Neil bought avocados on Monday and they were a bit too ripe. Just about useable now.

Another night in the chair, but little sleep this time - about and hour and a half from 05.30 to 07.10. Then I had to get going to remove my bandages, get my shower and get ready to go out for the rebandaging. Left myself with a little time in hand, hence posting here.

@Annb keeping my fingers crossed for you with (yes it's Amy) the storm, it might come through tomorrow night I believe.

Breakfast is coffee with scrambled eggs, a sausage and a crumpet.

I'm not sure what tea will be - I might use up something unhealthy from the freezer.

Off to do some garden work now, must keep on top of things and at least make a start on the next little section in my taming of the wilderness rotation! I do small sections rather than the whole lot, so the birds and wildlife have plenty of sanctuary and are not disturbed too much. Not that I could do the whole lot in one go anyway, so that's known as serendipity!

I've actually managed to get an appointment to see a GP. I asked the nurse bandaging my legs how I was supposed to get an appointment to see a doctor (she was recommending that I do so). I have asked other nurses in the past, none of whom had any ideas. This one just wheeled me to the reception desk and told the receptionist to give me an appointment - and she did! Next Monday. Wonderful! :joyful:

BG dropped too low while I was in the car so I had a can of sweetened coffee. Checked when I got home and it was up to 5.0. Just had an unsweetened coffee.

There's lots needing to be done in my garden. Plants still in pots (including shrubs and trees) that should have been put into the ground before this and other plants needing to be potted up, grass needing its final cut of the year, montbretia needing to be cut back - it's hanging over from both sides of the gateway, making it difficult for me to get past. Neil isn't feeling very great just now, so I can't ask him to do it (I can do the potting up but I can't carry the compost in), Alistair isn't fit either. It will just have to be left and hope the plants survive over the winter. At least the montbretia will die back sometime soon.
