The Blue Care nurse phoned my GP and the Nurse Navigtaor, my GP sent me to the emergency department after discussions with the NN as they thought it was a infection. As I cannot take oral antibiotics as I am intolerant to them with the leg wound. I have been prescribed to many of them over the years and they do not work any more on the infections I have been getting over the last 18 months..

Being infused at the moment with some witches brew that takes 24 hours from start to finish that will kill the infection before it got worser hopefully.

The nurse navigator was a great help there in the ER she pulled a few strings again I think, triaged and into a bed almost straight away.

My partner is keeping me supplied with coffee and food, although I did have some of their tomato soup last night which was not to bad.

Hopefully I will be home to night.
 
@Antje77 I thought I’d better reply here. Thanks for the photos of the emojis - I wonder which one is ‘meh’ and which is ‘woot’ then? I can see @MrsA2 ‘s confusion.

I hope hope hope your cat is ok, what a worry for you. I don’t suppose you’ll get much sleep tonight. Sending hugs as there’s nothing practical I can offer.

@Riva_Roxaban was quicker than I was on explaining the emoji's

It will be a long night, very worried about the cat but not much I can do. When he stands up he's very wobbly and looks confused. When I pick him up he feels very limp. Doesn't want his favourite treats but does drink water.
The medication is supposed to work for 24 hours, so he's likely to suffer a very low blood pressure for a long time.

I'm afraid he'll get in trouble if he goes out by himself, so I'll have to keep the doors of the living/bedroom closed tonight. Which means two dogs and my other cat will wake me up multiple times because they do not agree with closed doors.
I hope he'll eat something before I go to bed, I'll feel more confident he's improving if he does.
 
Cat has perked up a little!
Still very ill, but also much more alive than two hours ago, so I guess I dare go to bed after all, albeit with the doors closed to keep him in for his safety.

@Antje77 I am so glad the cat survived. Was it the vet that gave the advice on the dose?
I had a similar problem with one of my dogs. The vet gave a 2. 5 times overdose of ibuprofen which has caused severe kidney damage. They refuse to accept responsibility as I couldn't prove that the dogs kidneys were OK before the dose was given.
Eventually after lots and lots of complaints I got back half of the £6000 spent to keep the dog alive in the immediate aftermath of the overdose. It was given as a gesture of good will on the understanding that they didn't admit any responsibility and that I would not take it further.

Yes, I gave Poes the prescribed dose, it was only after he started to deteriorate that I googled the dose for cats.
However, I've done some thinking on it last night, when I was still very much afraid he wouldn't survive. My conclusion was that we all make mistakes, and sometimes our mistakes have horrible outcomes. It just happens.
We need to try not to make mistakes, and if we do we have to try even harder not to repeat them.

So I will have a talk with the vets office on how this happened to make sure they are aware it did happen and it had rather serious consequences (even though we were lucky in the end).
I will also make sure to let them know I am aware of mistakes happening, nothing to do about that, no hard feelings and I know they're only trying to make the best decisions.
I decided on this yesterday, when I wasn't sure yet if Poes would survive.

The medication he got was off-label for cats, although widely used in vet practices, so I have an inkling the right dosages might not be as clear in their computer system as on label medication.
I expect they'll want to look at that, as I'm sure they're as shocked by what happened as I am.

The dose was 2 to 4 times higher than advised, and a Google search told me Poes likely had a stronger reaction from that than would be expected. So possibly it was a combination of mild overdose and my cat for some reason being more susceptible than most to the effects.
Which throws in a large element of bad luck next to the dosing mistake.

When I called them last night (out of hours) the vet (different one) was very helpful and understanding, went out of her way to explain her thoughts and insisted I call her back late at night to inform her on Poes' progress, and again today, even if he was doing well.
She's obviously done her homework in the mean time as well (just like I did), as she had more information on wether to continue the medication or not, and changed her initial advice.

So so far I'm still very happy with my vets practice, despite the mistake!

It obviously gets way more complicated when, like in the case of your dog, so much money was spent to try to save it from the results of a mistake. My consult was only 35 euros, and they already said I'll get a refund for the tablets even though the package is opened.
The follow up phonecalls during the weekend and late at night are free, and I'm sure that if I had needed to bring him in for the overdose it would have been free of charge as well.
This obviously makes it much easier to not judge harshly.

Poes in the meantime is doing quite well!
He has spent lots of time purring in my lap and stealing my food, more than usual. I guess he's relieved he feels better as well, and I suspect he has somewhat like a hangover from his ordeal.
 
@Antje77 it’s so good to see Poes recovered, eating and looking well. I really admire your lovely attitude to what could have been a tragic mistake.
@Bildad that really was a horrible incident, I think an apology in such incidences goes a very long way to ease things on both sides. I spent my working life in the NHS and was appalled at the way the executives would try to cover up errors and refuse to admit responsibility. I know they were scared of the cost of litigation, but very often all a patient wanted was a simple ‘sorry, we made a mistake’ The dogged refusal to admit it just escalated things as the patient got more upset and determined to push things further.
 
@DJC3 What you say is very true. If an apology had been given for the mistake I would have been unlikely to have taken it as far as I did.
@Antje77 your vet seem far more proactive the way they have already offered to refund you and offered free advice etc.
My dog is much improved but will never be as well as he was. He is on a low protein diet - much the opposite of my diet which these days is mainly carnivore!
 
@DJC3 - what vaccines has your daughter had what was the 3rd one she had a reaction to?

My son had his 2nd Moderna and was not too great after both of them - the 2nd one he got on Thursday and didn't manage to get out of his bed until 7pm the following day - he didn't feel great yesterday either which was 2 days after the vaccine but decided to go out socialising and said he wasn't wasting another day because of the vaccine! - honestly the young ones ... but he must have felt a lot better

She had the Oxford Astra Zeneca ones. She had a bit of a reaction after the second and wasn’t fussed about getting the third but was told theyd be doing the flu jab at the same time. The staff at the vacc centre didn’t know anything about the flu vacc however so she ended up just getting the Covid one ( she’s a nurse, hence being prioritised for the jabs) she was completely zonked the day after, like your son. Good for him deciding he wasn’t going to let the vaccine hold him back!
 
I have been not great the day after having both astra zenecas ones too - this time I thought I might get the Pfizer if I get the choice as it would be a mixed whatever - I have booked in for my flu vaccine at Boots next week as didn't want to get both vaccines on same day as my GPs surgery has advised this is what will be happening in my area? - costs £14.99 and I can pick when I want to get it done - something else to pay for as well as paying national insurance which is supposed to cover any nhs costs but not happening at the moment ...
 

I didn’t pay for my flu jab, got a letter from GP about it - I assumed as we are diabetic we are a priority group. It seems odd that you have to pay. Is that just in Boots do you suppose?
 
I have to agree. I did the same thing - save them up for the Christmas Shop. I don't like the new method at all. I also think the quality at Morrisons has gone down lately. I still go there for some things but I've switched back to Sainsburys as their quality is better and it's right beside the M&S food store at Straiton.
