"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I'm curious to know the brand of hiking boots friend No.3 was wearing @MrsA2. Walking home wearing boots with no soles sounds painful.
Luckily the last bit was just across the village green which was very wet and muddy, so quite soft!!
I don't know the brand but they were a few years old and I've heard of this on shoes as well as boots. Soemthing in the material used just suddenly gives up.

Your friend was lucky to escape with bruises @MrsA2. You can easily do yourself a mischief falling on a hard surface like tarmac.
Her knee is stiff and sore today but no other damage. Yes she was very lucky indeed. It was a wallop. I'm surprised she didn't break an arm, wrist or collar bone as the usual reaction is to put an arm out to save yourself.

A less eventful day today, thank heavens.:)
B: a nut bar on the way to double dancing.
Double dancing.
Neighbour chatting
L: fancied something warm but emptying fridge ready for a trip so options limited. Ended up reheating some cooked chicken and pork and ham in a pan then stirring through some double cream. Actually very tasty. An lc hot chocolate to drink. Temperature has suddenly dropped a lot.
Helped at social club, ate 2 biscuits, :(
D: sausages (90% pork) with cabbage and courgettes cooked in same pan with added butter. A cc little chocolate pot.

Out later at pub for book club. 2 red wines, small ones.

Anyone else feeling the cold? Taking bed warmer up with me tonight. Last night I couldn't sleep my feet were so cold.

Thank you for the chicken burger recipe @Annb I am looking forward to giving them a try.
Still on our mini holiday which was booked with the hope there would be an Indian summer, ha! Torrential weekend in Cornwall, but saved by a delicious dressed crab and cockle and clam masala at Rick’s pub:) In Dorset now, went on a very interesting fossil walk in Charmouth yesterday and got absolutely soaked. Homeward tomorrow via a stay with my SIL who is prediabetic but in denial about it all and hasn’t made any attempt to change so will be interesting to see what she is eating.

Morning all. Yes, I'm feeling the cold too @MrsA2, I put my electric blanket on to warm my bed and my heating on for a while last evening. It's a sunny day today but don't know if it's warmed the streets yet! I went food shopping yesterday and splashed out on some wild caught pacific salmon! It was very expensive but I like salmon and won't touch farmed salmon so it will be a real treat to be savoured and remembered for a long time, if you know what I mean. Not sure yet how to cook it but my mouth is watering at the thought of it fried gently in butter. Any ideas?

All options have been exhausted and Archie has a visit to Uncle Hector (the vet) arranged for tomorrow afternoon. So sad, but they can't take a chance on him. Not that they would be allowed to, in any case. Nobody wants a Rottweiler cross who has bitten a passer-by - even if in puppyish play. Banksie, on the other hand, has a reprieve and will move to his new home on the Mainland in a couple of weeks. Hugo will remain and probably enjoy being "c o c k-o-the-walk". His only vice is that he barks a lot. That, we think, is what set off the other two on their excited game of "chase the walker" but there will be nobody left for him to over-excite by the end of the month.

Breakfast: the last spicy chicken burger with RyVita. I had it cold, cut into slices. Worked very well. I must, though, invest in a new mincer - an electric one. I have two old fashioned ones (one an antique one that Neil bought for me) but neither grinds the meat as fine as I would like it.

2nd meal: will be some of the pork, bean and cabbage casserole from yesterday.

I've been invited to go to a newly starting-up coffee morning on Friday and will take some baking with me - it's a good opportunity for me to keep my hand in at baking, try new recipes and not have to find someone to take them away from me. I've just made some Portuguese style custard tarts with the addition of a couple of slices of banana in the bottom of each. Bananas and custard can't be bad. Also going to make some strawberry tarts but have run out of steam so will keep the cream filling in the fridge (did manage to make that) until tomorrow, and will make sweet pastry when I come back from an early appointment for my legs.

Same in Canada too. We’ve added a light quilt to our bedsheet. We do sleep with patio doors open though still.

Today has been mostly sorting and packing ready for a trip we start tomorrow, after a hospital follow up appointment for my eye. Hoping they give me the OK to drive. Hubbys an OK chauffeur :) but I do like my independence.

Brunch: some cold chicken and 2 slices hm cheese soda bread with extra cheese. A small ice cream

D: Fried green tomatoes with eggs hash of pork and sausage. Side salad. Cc chocolate pot with extra cream

Fridge now very nearly empty. Just finishing off the open bottle of wine (someone has to ;))

Forecast gets better, hurray!

We are heading South West tomorrow, so I hope you've used up all the rain and turned up the thermostat as you left ;)

I'm so sorry about Archie @Annb , it's heartbreaking no other options have been found.

Temperatures have dropped spectacularly, most of the day my living room has been below 14 °C. I can live with that, but the water temperature has dropped from around 20 °C to 16 almost overnight as well with the heavy rains, so it took me a long time to get warm again.

Still, it's good practice for two weeks of camping in the UK in October, I know I'll get used to it pretty quickly. :)

Ready for a new ridiculous adventure? Here comes:
I'm still on this dating website, seeing if I can find something between the idiots and the creeps. I enjoyed my first ever dating experience with this Tom a few weeks ago, but it started knowing it would end nowhere with him being married. Still, it showed me that it is possible to find someone interesting.

When I first joined the site some two months ago I chatted with someone for a while and then mostly forgot about it, being busy. He sent me another message today, I mentioned the cold after swimming, he mentioned just having lit the wood stove, I expressed some envy. I also proposed meeting for a cup of coffee tomorrow afternoon to warm up after swimming, nothing to lose, if we don't like eachother we'll just go home.

He lives on a farm only accessible by water and jokingly dared me to come over for coffee, swimming. Not one to ignore a challenge, I told him I'd be there tomorrow afternoon.
I don't think he's ever had a visitor he didn't have to pick up by boat, and I doubt he really believes I'll come, not having disclosed a specific time, and he's never geven me his exact address (but enough clues to know where he lives), but I'm quite sure he hopes I will even if he doesn't believe it! :hilarious:

I'll only have to cross the narrow canal, there's a foot path on the north bank. The biggest challenge will be his dog. He says it's friendly, but it's also rather large. And I do have a bit of a fear for dogs, much as I love them. And this one absolutely never has someone enter its premises without an invitation, this being impossible without a boat unless you're a crazy swimmer.
I'll bring some very, very good dog treats...
Second biggest challenge will be the language. I'm sure he speaks and writes Dutch just fine, but so far he chose to chat in Friesian only. I read Friesian, and I understand Friesian up to a point, but not nearly as well as I understand English. We'll see how it goes.

So I'm off for another adventure tomorrow afternoon, and even if we don't like eachother at all, we'll both get a good story out of it! :joyful:

Yes, @MrsA2. Here in London the ambient temperature fell from above seasonal average to below the seasonal norm in a matter of hours, thanks to a shift in the jet stream.

Okay, that's not uncommon in September which the weather men and women insist on calling meterological Autumn, but it's not officially Autumn until 21 September marked by the equinox, when daylight and dark hours are equal.

If past experience is any guide, we could well get some more warm weather before Winter sets in.

Is that Rick Stein's pub? @sueh21. That cockle and clam masala sounds unusual.

Pacific sockeye salmon is a striking red colour and has a wonderful flavour and succulent texture @RosemaryJackson.

We enjoy sockeye fillets baked with broccoli or cauliflower florets and mushrooms, double cream and lemon verbena or other garden herb(s) in season.

How far will you have to swim, Antje? I see the destination, thanks to your arrow, but how wide is the canal and how far do you have to walk to get to your starting point? Good luck with the dog.
