They think diabetes is different. Not for us. We haven't got a long chance to be normal and are longing for that one day to come when someone says, we have a cure.

It's old news to everyone. Promises are broken, secrets are kept but what I could and still can't ever get is that you are now, not normal

it's soo annoying when your in school and asked to do things in front of everyone. Of course you have the really annoying people, I've never known life without bullies. Half of it I don't even tell anyone. I've gotten help but to be honest nothing is working.

Diabetes sucks and I always wonder, why was I chose to have it. Every Diabetic is beautiful and perfect in every one of their own way.

Has anyone just hated getting those awkward stares when your asked to do your levels? The people that say you'll never be normal again? It hits hard! I'd love to see the people that pick on us with diabetes, live with it for a day. Maybe then they could understand.

I am not perfect. Nobody is. But us diabetics are perfect together. Don't you agree?

Hi,

Your really getting your thoughts down....

There is no "cosmic joker" that pranked you with diabetes..

The "norms" in this world don't need to understand my diabetes. They just need to get their heads round themselves..!? ;)

As you get older it becomes easier to ignore other people's opinions. I rarely mention my diabetes, because everyone with no experience seems to think they are an expert.

I'm normal, no one is the same. Life throws some pretty cruel illnesses and accidents at people, some of those that stare at you may unfortunately be one of the people who have to find a new normal. Curiosity is a natural thing, if you see someone staring ask them if they have any questions, usually when people have some knowledge they stop (some think they are now experts).
People saying there will be a cure etc, maybe one day there will be, only get excited about it when a cure becomes mainstream, let the hipsters be the Guinea pigs

Do you know what, those bullies are just idiots and if brains were smarties, they wouldn't have enough to fill a tube !!
We are dandy diabetics, special and go through such a lot to keep us alive, Try and stand tall, be proud, because you are worth a hundred iof those bullies and don't let them see they have hurt you. But remember to tell someone in the school if bullies are still taunting you, also your parents too, bullies are often insecure themselves and often their only way of defence is to. attack. Take good care and wishing you happier times, all the best :)

@DiabeticSweety I agree with @Robinredbreast . Bullies are weak and insecure. That's why they bully - to hide their own fears. They think that by being loud or by pointing at someone else, people won't notice how weak they themselves are. Remember that and don't let the bullies get you down.

You said that sometimes, you don't even bother to mention the bullying. If it's happening at school, please do mention it. Schools are obliged to take bullying seriously. Speak to someone you trust at school or at home. Bullies thrive on silence. Don't let them.

I'm not sure who's asking you to check your levels? But if you're finding the way that's being dealt with is making you feel awkward or singled out, then do say something. They probably don't even realise.

Welcome to the forum :)

Oh look, another proverb and it's so true. Nothing to do with diabetes you understand, as I get older I seem to care less and less about the opinions of naysayers on every subject.

When you're younger other people's opinions, right or wrong, can effect your career and all aspects of life. When you are older, you realise that many people's opinions are based on no facts whatsoever, or simply irrational beliefs. It often seems that, the less they know about a subject, the more convinced they are that they are right.

I think that when you are young you feel it necessary to belong to a herd who agree with you. It they do not agree with you then you are subjected to ridicule (bullied). Progressive age teaches you that some of the bullies are only trying to establish their own place in the pecking order and some of them are not worth listening to.
