What is a fasting blood reading mean?

But not straight away, fasting reading is taken before your first meal or drink.
I fast in the morning missing out breakfast but still take my fasting test before my second cuppa bout ten a.m.
And I don't have anything to alter the reading in my first cuppa.

Reading first thing in the morning without any intake
If T2s suffer from dawn phenomenon, then a first thing reading will not be a true reading.
it is better, to wait for half an hour after getting out of bed until you test, then have whatever breakfast you have first thing. A fasting reading can be done after sleep anytime of the day, it doesn't have to be in the morning!
if I wanted to test pre meal and post two hours, the pre meal test would be a fasting test. But it would be in the afternoon as I use intermittent fasting, and I never stick to the usual paliver of breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper and snacks inbetween!
Madness!

Everything you eat and drink can have an impact on blood glucose levels. Taking a blood glucose reading when people first get up after sleeping means they have had nothing to eat or drink for a number of hours while they have been asleep.
Some people find some things they eat and/or drink have little if any impact on their blood glucose, while the same foods have a more marked impact for others.

What people consider fasting also varies ... from nothing to eat or drink, only water, only water and black coffee etc.
