Hi There I was diagnosed about 18 months ago with type 2 and am on Metformin 500mg 3 x Daily and cannot seem to find out what is a high (Risky high) Glucose levels I have looked on many many sites and spoken to many people but cannot find any sort of table, is it an individual level although it would seem there is a "normal" level of around 5.5 to 6.0. my highest measured level was 18.6 and last Sunday it was 5.0. anybody can tell me where I can find this information.
Hoping for a reply.
Regards: Brian

Hi Brian.
Welcome.

The 2009 target levels for a Diabetic are as follows:
Fasting Bg (waking) ...............between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals...................no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

Anything above these levels paves the way for possible complications later on.
Hyperglycemia, hyperglycaemia, or high blood sugar is a condition in which an excessive amount of glucose circulates in the blood plasma. This is generally a blood glucose level of 10+ mmol/L , but symptoms may not start to become noticeable until later numbers like 15-20+ mmol/L or 15.2-32.6 mmol/L. However, chronic levels can produce organ damage.

Hope that helps.
Ken

Thanks Ken,
It does help and it would seem from those numbers that i could be on a slippery slop as my reading are quite often in double figures.

Hi again, Brian.

This is the best place to be if you are prepared to listen and learn. Here is where YOU will be able to take control of your Diabetes - don't let it ru(i)n your life !
There are lots of people here who are more than willing to help all they can. I was once in your position but being on here has turned my life around.
Whatever age you are, it is never too late to take control.

Ken. :D
