Prediabetes What is a normal BG reading?

Hi,

I have never taken my own blood glucose readings. I have been T2 diabetic for 15 years, and have recently 'reversed' it (or put it in remission) via the LCHF diet. I have reduced my Hba1c readings from 65 last May to 42 last month and my doctor says I am now 'pre diabetic'. I am slightly underweight at present and have never taken any meds.

Today I have been to hospital for a minor procedure under sedation. The first reading they took there was 8.2; after the procedure it was 6.8. I had not eaten anything since last night, still nothing before either reading.

My question is, isn't 8.2 a high reading for a pre diabetic patient?

It sounds like Dawn Phenomenon where the liver dumps glucose as you have not eaten for so long it happens to lots of us and our fasting glucose reading is usually the highest of the day.

Stress is very likely the cause so I wouldn't worry about one reading in those circumstances.

I dont think you can draw any conclusions from a one-off reading, especially on the day of a hospital procedure, complete with travel, appointment, stress, etc. Those readings certainly aren't abnormal!

Even non diabetics can spike higher than that at times (stress, lots of carbs...) so I shouldn't worry.

Well done on getting your hba1c down to 42. That is a GREAT improvement. :)
