[quote="IanDIan,
I am reminded of a remark made by something we all will meet one day, Death.
(Terry Pratchett. Hogfather.)
Does that mean we should not care about life before death?
MERE ACCUMULATION OF OBSERVATIONAL EVIDENCE IS NOT PROOF.
I don't know what you are trying to say, Cugila. The rejection of observational evidence may not be "proof" but it amounts to dishonesty & does affect our quality of life.
DUK are rejecting as invalid the testimony of those who challenge their high carb advice. Their refusal to examine their advice which, on their own admission, results in the progression of the disease, is SCANDALOUS.
Ian.
I find it strange that you don't understand my post. It seems quite straightforward to me. Then again I have a strange sense of humour some say .....
Still no matter.
My post was not meant to be dark and profound just an anecdote, with a point, that's all. We can be too serious at times. However, where have I stated that we should not care about life before Death ? Read some of my posts Ian, you will see I personally care very much about life, I also have a sense of humour !
I do agree that DUK needs to look at things differently. I personally have stated my views here and to DUK/NHS etc, anybody who might listen. My view is that the advice needs changing, they need to give better advice regarding carbs, change the view that Diabetic's don't need to change their diet. WE all know that is not the case ! However I disagree that it should all be about low carbing, we just need more variety in what dietary advice is recommended, GI/GL/reducing carbs/Med diet/South Beach anything really.
I could tell them whatever I want to try and prove my point. It could all be lies. I know that you personally are a god fearing man and I trust your integrity and character, however there are others who just want things changed for their own ends.
THAT is why it has to be proven evidence not anecdotes from low carbers, low GI/GL, survey's, polls etc. Just so much paper, nothing gained ! Scientific evidence which backs up the anecdotal evidence is what is needed. I would put my hand in my pocket for some proper trials to be funded, trials that would have some effect - more so than indignant phone calls and letters to DUK. I am sure the staff there just 'love' those ?
If I worked there I think my response would be to put the phone on hold....bin the letters, give me some hard facts. That's what I would want to hear.
Ally and Catherine are both right in what they say too.
We are all on the same side, aren't we ? Wanting to make things better for all Diabetic's. I don't see why, because somebody has a different viewpoint about it all means they don't care or are insensitive. Smacks of the old low carb/high carb debate to me. Well this forum is way past that, it is history. We are more open, more frank with each other, but we respect other views now. Even though we might not totally agree with them ! :wink:
