We all try and control our diabetes (type 2) in difference way, Low carbing, Portion control & with oral drugs ects.
But we all have one common goal, “To control our blood sugar”.
So this leads me on to the following, what is good control?
As my doctor has said that an Hba1C of anything under 6.5% is good
Various diabetic websites state that after 2 hours you need to be under 8.5mmol and more recently I have read its now 7.5mmol, so it you stay in these levels its good control.
So again what is actually good control??
I have searched a lot for what is good control for a NON-diabetic, the things I have found are that a NON-diabetic BS will return back to around 4 to 6mmol.
So does that mean that we have non-diabetics walking around with BS 2 hours after a meal at 6.0mmol, so does that mean there fasting level was also around 6.0mmol, as the goal is always to get near to your fasting level 2 hours after food.
I have a few reasons for asking these questions.
One is, if before food your BS is say 5.4mmol, then 1hour after food its 6.8mmol, then 2 hours after food, its 5.8mmol… We are not below our before food level… Is this bad.???
As a lot of diabetic websites say this is a must ect..?
My other point is, I have recently viewed my medical records for the last 10 years and noticed that the GP’s did an Hba1C on myself under routine medicals. The results were all very interesting.
7 years ago – 4.5%
6 years ago – 4.6%
5 years ago – 4.5%
4 years ago – there never did it.
3 years ago – Pre – Diabetic
2 years ago – 6.7% classed as diabetic
1 year ago – 6.3%
So my question, do I need to get my Hba1C down to around 4.5% mark for my body to be working at an optimum level, as my personal history shows that my body pre diabetes, was working around the mid 4 % range.
