Hello everyone
Hope someone can help, went out for a coffe this morning my friends bought me a scone I wouldn't normally eat them but didn't want to make a fuss,My numbers went to 15 but what really scared me had to inject 30units fast acting insulin novo rapid.dig 8yrs ago type2.Had a heck of a fight to get on fast acting insulin. As im 62yrs obese was told not worth the expence at my age and weight.I have been following Dr Berstein diet makes sense to me pity NHS doesn't agree if i followed advice of diabetic nurse at hospital i would be dead she tried to get me to follow their diet first day my numbers 28.9 one day was enough.I try really hard to follow lo w carb diet, but getting worse even a small amount of startc sends me sky high.what should i do
thanks Margaret

62 is still young. I was diag 10 years ago at 60, & have had all the care & test strips I need - including the usual diet advice that I didn't need.

Are you on a background insulin? That would help keep you level. I am not, so I can't advise.

yes im on novo insulatard take 28to30mgs at bedtime also 2 glucophage 500mg,i a have got a good doctor gives me all test strips etc i need. Its the hospital consultant who was rude.

62 is not old. It's a very productive age. If someone told you youare too old for treatment, I'd complain. LOUDLY.
I'm 63 and have control at non-diabetic numbers. I follow Bernstein or Atkins diets and use minimal Metformin. I'm losing weight and doing loads of exercise. I'm very fit and well. so if you are having trouble, it's definitely NOT an age thing.

PS I have to buy strips though.

Hello Margaret :)

You ask “What should I do?” and I expect you know that next time someone buys you a scone you should say, “No thank you, but you can enjoy it instead.” It really isn’t worth eating something that is bad for you just so that others can feel good – and it isn’t making a fuss either as it is just being sensible.

You sound a bit down at the moment and that is probably why you are being hard on yourself. I wonder how old the person was who said 62 was old – obviously not old enough to have any perspective! Be kind to yourself, you aren’t old, you have lots more living to do yet.

Clearly you need more help to get a handle on things and hopefully someone with experience of insulin will be along shortly to give some advice.
