What is Linseed and why have I bought it?

As the header says... Is it low carb? What actually is it? I'm assuming i read something somewhere and bought a packet of the stuff, forgot about it and found in the cupboard tonight... Tried googling n it's just telling me where I can buy it from! If it's all good, what am I using it for please? :) x
It's used on cricket bats :p Oh and fed to horses to improve condition and give them a nice shiny coat, you have to boil it though as poisonous to them. :D http://www.equi-therapy.net/equi-therapy/equine-nutrition/linseed-horse.shtml

They are really expensive in some stores, the likes of Lidl & Aldi are very cheap for buying seeds.

Yep, buying all these ingredients is far more expensive than making a 'normal loaf of bread' but if we want to eat it we have to pay. ps I might be cheeky and ask my GP for some of the ingredients on prescription
;) lol.
