Hi all. I am looking for help in pointing me to the best resources for a person who is newly diagnosed with t2 who has a learning disability? Are there videos or visual aids with simple explanations to help guide a young guy I know? I would be grateful for any pointers!

I use this website for various things with my son who has autism when I need to explain things - it's pretty good though I haven't used the diabetes leaflets and of course it won't advocate low carb - but it has leaflets on a whole load of stuff - hope it helps :)

My son has autism and dyspraxia which affects motor and planning. He also has communication difficulties and misophonia. I set alarms on his mobile phone to remind him to do certain things, and we have lots of visual displays around the home to encourage him to become more independent. Regarding the young person you are enquiring for, do they have any specialist intervention or therapist they see regularly? Do they attend a specialist education provision or supported living/working scheme? many of these community and medical teams can help a young person deal with their feelings about a diagnosis and also help them manage their self care around their health issues.

The young person is attending a supported learning scheme but living at home with their dad. It is early days re diagnosis but the reason I am trying to help is that the dad feels he is being pushed from pillar to post by the professionals involved with his son (aged 20). I am a total newbie to the topic of learning disabilities and diabetes but am learning a lot here. Many thanks.
