Hi. Quick and probably daft question. What kinds of spikes would people expect from certain foods. I KNOW IT VARIES! Just want a very rough idea..if this sounds kind of..sort of..what might be expected - on no meds and LCHF diet, my BS level might vary from 5.6-7.8 during a day...a bowl of cereal (which I wouldn't normally eat these days) raises BS and is maybe 13.0 - 14.5 2 hours later. Just an experiment really - does that sound to you like what I should expect being this daft? Any comment besides "Doh!" would be appreciated.

I'd expect a rise (especially after cereal or anything else I know I shouldn't touch) of maybe 4.0 or a little more .... but the figures you "quoted" represent one big jump and the difficulty I'd have with that as well was your comment on how long it might take (hours) to subside. One thing to hit a peak, entirely another to see it fall but within a good time frame.

Must admit I've never had anything like that but I'm perhaps a little different @pleinster ..... so the two things are the jump and how long you stay there

Blood Sugar 101 has some useful figures for normal blood sugar: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/16422495.php
This suggests that under 6.6mmol one hour and under 5.5mmol two hours after eating is normal. In a non diabetic this would apply regardless of what they ate. There's also a link to a study that seems to show that one-hour levels are more accurate than fasting levels at predicting diabetes.

Having said that, when my (non-diabetic) children were young they would spike to 15 or 16 after eating a "Happy Meal".

I'm sorry if it is'nt mutch help, but the spike that you get depends on so much:
How much carbs, how much fat, how much protein, how availible each of the macronutrients are (is it a lump or a puree).
As a comparitor the standard OGTT dose of "Lucozade" raises me from ~5.0 to ~10.0, peaking @ ~50min and returning to pre test levels before the 120 min point, usually overshooting!
