What meter / How to use.

I have decided with all the contrary diet advice (medical profession says one thing /virtually everyone on here says something else)to test my BG after meals (2 hours?) and decide what is best for ME. What I don't know is what is considered the best type/Manufacturer of meter and how does the majority go about getting a blood sample. Was looking at Boots Accu-Chek Mobile Blood Glucose System but that has cartridges for lancets (only six) in a cartridge and I can imagine this getting V-expensive.
Budget of say £20-£40 for the meter (+whatever the sundries cost for upkeep).

Supplementary :- Roughly how long would a meter last if looked after

Anecdote:- Was thinking better just get a cheap one as when I am 'better' will no longer need one.

I have seen the list of BG meters but I am more looking for day to day living with opinions than dry technical facts.

A lot of people here use the SD Codefree. It's not the price of the meter that's important, it's the cost of the strips. Lancets are generally not expensive in comparison. Personally I have the Accu-Chek Aviva, but only because that's what I picked up in Boots!
 
Hi, in last copy of BALANCE ypsomed are giving meters away you either ring or apply on line its a great meter and the company are very helpfull, cost of strips are £17.10 less vat =£14.25 to pay cant find receipt for lancets but guess about £9.

Agree with TP about the SD Codefree if your paying for the strips yourself. Accu-chek meters are very reliable and up until recently I was using the Accu-Chek Aviva Nano which is a great little meter, changed to the Contour USB a few weeks back and I'm equally impressed and it's dead easy to download your results to a PC; do check the price of strips before deciding which meter to purchase!
