There's some great stuff going on with Motown song arrangements.. The opening up with the chorus hook. Some big "soundscapes" on production too..

Sad to say there isn't anything in particular that I listen to. Music was my life and my career, all I thought about for about 25 years. Now I listen to radio 4 and the only music I listen to are works I need to learn. Having said that, my ex is American and is heavily into some pretty dark American heavy rock. I do like some of that. When I listen to something, I hear the horn part (if there is one) first, then melody and harmony, then rhythmic structure and lastly (often not at all) any lyrics. Friends often tell me to listen to a "beautiful" song, then get all weird on me when I don't hear what they hear. My ears have just been conditioned to focus on different things.

It's probably safe to say that I judge all music with an open mind. (And if it's got a fun horn part I'll definitely like it )

Carreer? Session recording stuff? Or live orchestral??

I like a variety of stuff. My MP3 player has rock, nu-metal, heavy metal and pop. My computer has some electronica, old 80's stuff, some grunge.

I grew up in the 80's so listened to the New Romantics and the tail end of punk rock. Then I discovered rock music and the pop went out the window. I am now at 46 re-appreciating some of the pop that I listened to back in 80's and 90's.

Hubby is a big heavy metal fan so the mp3 player we have in the car has Avenged Sevenfold, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Stereophonics, Fish (ex lead singer from Marillion), Billy Idol, Savage Garden (yes), Darren Hayes (ex Savage Garden lead singer), Phil Collins, Def Leppard, Linkin Park, Pat Benatar and other sorts. Quite a mix of music lol

Rock all the way.AC/DC legends sprinkled with some ABBA occasionally (it's an agnetha thing) and there's some great classical stuff but it's so hard to find in between the bits that the real music lovers listen to.
