I am not 100% sure what my morning blood sugar should be?

At the moment it can be anything from 5.1 to 8, just looking to normalise it.

There is no normal reading, it varies greatly amongst diabetics, particularly in the mornings. 5.1 is a good reading, 8 is a little high but remember, these meter readings can be up to 20% out so your 8 may actually be 6.4. There are other factors with morning readings too such as Dawn Phenomenon and Somogyi Effect ( Google them ). Basically, they can both increase morning BG levels.
Ideally, your waking levels would be between 4 & 7. You are not too far off really.

Normal is 4 to 5 fasting and since you're 5.1 now you should manage it with the right diet and exercise. I posted a diabetic soup in the food section which you should try worked for me and I hovered about the five. But as tasty as it is too much of a good thing can put you off and I'm eating other stuff now and already my levels are creeping up to hover about 6 fasting.

Doctors say over 7 fasting or after 2hrs after food is damaging though some say 6, I'm with them I can feel the blood squirt into the fine veins in my feet below 6, anything higher and a tingling freezing burning numbness takes over.

Though I say normal for normal people most diabetics I see have fasting levels in the 5s or even 6s.

Like a lot of people here I seem to struggle with dawn readings. I was 6.8 this morning, despite being 5.7 after eating last night. I think we are all different, and I have learned to not obsess about the morning reading if my overall control is fine. There is, after all, not a lot I can do about it..

Well I will keep an eye on it, but my last hb1ac test was actually 46 which was really good, to say that when I was diagnosed at xmas my hb reading was 120.

I think I get a bit paranoid about it tbh and I find it hard to relax and enjoy myself at times

My fasting bloods have been anything from 9.3 upwards I am type 2 they have told me if they cannot get things to alter it will be insulin in the next few months for me.
