Im gonna go back to the doctors tomorrow because i want to DEFINITELY rule out diabetes
What is the best test to ask for that will DEFINITELY rule out diabetes?

I don't know what the best test is. It could be the Hba1c but the doctor is not likely to pay out for that without some good reason. A simpler approach might be the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). You should fast for this so you get a fasting level reading and then you drink a sugary drink and test again two hours later to see how your body coped.

All of this should be done at your doctor's surgery so that his equipment is acceptable and properly calibrated. It is a fairly simple test and could be carried out at home but you could get an inaccurate result and frighten yourself for no good reason.

Hopefully the surgery will give you some sort of test. Note that you can always have an on the spot blood glucose check at your local pharmacy; it's not ideal but may give you some indication. Two hours after a meal is a good time to do a finger prick check. BTW I was diagnosed with a urine stick by the GP in his surgery; not the best way but I was way over the limit and had the complete set of symptoms!

I have been reading your other thread and I believe your only concern is frequent urination. The numbers you quote do not suggest diabetes.

I think it is necessary to point out that if you are diagnosed with diabetes then it does not stop the need to pee frequently. This is indeed a symptom of diabetes but does not get any better after diagnosis.

A most likely cause, as I said in the other thread, is that you are consuming a diuretic in your diet. Caffeine is the most likely one and this is in tea, coffee and some fizzy drinks.

Hi Squire

I think your points about peeing may be true for some but in my case since starting medication 8 years ago for diabetes my need to pee has reduced dramatically in recent years. Before diagnosis I thought it was due to the usual prostate problems but I think it had more to do with the diabetes. I do take Saw Palmetto, the prostate herb, which I think has also helped but I now pee less frequently than I did 20 years ago. So, we are all different but for those who pee frequently due to sugar in the urine, then resolving the sugar problem will improve things.

Thank you Daibell.

My comments were aimed at the OP who does not seem to have diabetes according to his doctor. My point is that even if he did have diabetes then it is likely not to cure the symptom which is concerning him most of all.

Thanks for your replies , I'm not worried about whether the symptom will go or not i just want to no if i have diabetes or not.
Daibell with your frequent urination , were you urinating excessive amounts of urine each time?
I am going frequently but not excreting MASSIVE amounts of urine
I did a 24 hour measurement and i only peed 1.5 liters in a day (normal amount)
Also how frequent did you find yourself going?

Hi Leon

The frequent urination in diabetes is caused by the body trying to get rid of high sugar levels in the blood (usually starts when blood glucose goes above 13-14 mmol/l) which you don't appear to have. We are not doctors and can't diagnose you, but there's not much evidence to suggest that you have diabetes at present (at your age most likely Type 1).

Hi Leon. To be honest I can't remember how much but I think it was quite a bit and at it's worst it was about every 30 mins. I know in my case it was the diabetes and the sugar in the urine. As others have said your problem may be something else. For the older male it can be prostate enlargement etc and there are a few other possible causes so do see the doc.

Thanks , Im going probably about 8-10 times a day
But i was thinking because i go the normal amount in 24 hours (1.5 liters) that it isn't considered excessive
I also had the urine dipstick test which showed nothing wrong
Still feel that i have to go for another test that will definitely rule it out though

Have you been checked out for an overactive bladder or a urine infection? There are other reasons for frequent urination besides diabetes.
Hope you get sorted soon.
Angie
