What The **** Is This In My Insulin Pen?

So just returned from holiday and whist there 2 of my insulin pens started getting orangey floaty bits in them, see attached pic. Obviously as soon as I saw this I swapped to a fresh pen.

Anyway, does anyone know what this is?

BTW pens were stored in either a FRIO pouch or a the fridge and never exposed to very hot temperatures or direct sunlight.

It almost looks like the insulin is denaturing for some reason or something in the insulin is dropping out of solution but what could cause that I have no idea.

Out of interest have you tried shacking it to see if it would mix back in again?

I would also change insulin carts and chuck those.....
 
+1 for denaturing. Might be worth calling the manufacturer too - they'd want to know if they've got a bad batch.
