What to ask

Hey, so my HbA1c came back at 80 and after pushing the GP I asked for Metformin to help me bring my levels down as I won't see them until next week. I feel like I'm going to learn most from this forum and it's answered most of my questions already.

My question is what should I ask my GP at my first appointment, what did you wish you knew sooner?

I didn't ask him much apart from the exact result I just stated I wanted to try a low carb diet first before considering medication. Luckily he agreed so no arguments!
They were so amazed at my 3 month result that diabetic meds were never mentioned again.
I did get a referral to the diabetic eye clinic and marked up for annual foot checks. My next appt, with a nurse at the surgery, was 3 months after.
And referred for podiatry so I didn't cut into the skin when trimming my toenails.

I wish I could have just tried diet first but my mental health was struggling and I have ARFID (Eating issue with the textures) which basically means my current diet is carbs on carbs and a little bit of meat. I don't eat any veg or fruit so it's going to take me longer than most to get a sensible low carb diet in place that doesn't also impact my mental health with panic attacks but I'm positive I will get there especially with all the help on this forum.

Not sure what textures you can manage but hopefully you will find low-carb food you can eat?

I lost a large front filling and while waiting for over 2 weeks to get it fixed I'm living on eggs, eggs with melted cheese, mashed kohlrabi with cream/butter and melted cheese, low-carb cakes, hummus, and cold veg soups (cucumber or gazpacho). Not my usual diet but the low-carb cakes are good, and high in protein. Would any of those suit you?

I struggle with most veg, potatoes carrots and corn are the exceptions. Which doesn't help much. From your list I can currently eat cheese I've been working on eating scrambled eggs this week but it takes me a while as I have to mentally build myself up to taste a tiny amount, I then build that amount up until I'm used to the texture and then I have to get my head to shut up as for my whole life it's said "I don't like that" so I then need to teach myself that I do like it it took me months of hypnotherapy too be able to eat Chicken when I younger. I have a long journey ahead, but there is so much info here I am sure I'll manage it.

What about low carb cake - the ones made with ground almods (I ignore the flour as ground ones are fine). They have more eggs, so high protein, but friends tell me the texture and taste is like 'real' cake.
