What to do ? When u see this the moment it hits ?!

hi, got the same thing here this morning. What are your blood glucose levels? take a correction jab if possible and drink a bit more water than usual. I usually leave it a few hours and check again. I normally have a blood testing strip for ketones but have ran out, found that ketones in the blood return to normal a lot faster than in urine. Hope it goes back to normal soon, sure someone with better advice will be along soon.

Ah - am on fixed rates at mo

L-5
D-7
Bed and morning 7 slow
Will just eat less and stick same in that should balence it out

What's your BG at the moment? If it's anything over 11-13mmol your best bet is to call the diabetic nurse, they will probably recommend a correction dose but given that your're currently on set doses it would be best for them to make the recommendation as to how much of a correction is required.

Well..bed at 19.2.... Woke at 12.8 ...about to test again now...and to have breakfast ...but will lower in take but same hit in units ..hope that will counter act it...but have left mess at hospital on it too...so thank u @Natalie1974... Will make sure I follow that up

I asked for a meter for ketone testing on blood and they keep telling me they've never heard of it despite being diabetic specialists and thus will not make the effort to look for one. As every time i use my ketostix (urinalysis) part of me thinks its that I have left it some time after I opened the tub and it says to use within one month which could be giving me false readings.

If it helps I took in a printed off version to show the team what I wanted they couldn't say they didn't know that way

Yeah i think my doctors/hospitals in my area only order free meters from companies like accu chek where I requested to have a more comfortable blood glucose meter (which I got for free with some added lancets), however I checked on their website and accuchek don't do meters that check for ketones. The DSN/Doc seems unwilling to provide an external source of a ketone testing meter free of charge since I'm on benefits and I don't want to have to pay a majority of my weeks pay just for a meter.

I was given a ketone monitor when I went on the pump. Months later I tried to get a repeat prescription for the strips and was told they'd been withdrawn. I was at the hospital clinic the next day and told them what had happened. My DSN said that there were new NICE guidelines which meant that ketone blood testing strips had to be withdrawn from non pump users. The health centre had obviously made a mistake with me but I was surprised to find, on the forum, that some non pumpers are being prescribed these strips. Lucky you!

They may have their reasons but they have nothing to do with being on benefits, since it's all free if you are diabetic. Have you got your exemption certificate?
