What do you do with your lancets when done with them? Do I just use them once? Do you bin them or?

My nurse gave me the box and told me to read the instructions . . . I did but it doesnt say.
 
I put mine in my sharps box but not sure if that is correct as i am newly diagnosed.
 
I also use a BD Clip to carry about with me. It's small and snips the end of the needle so you can dispose safely. I use it in work or when i'm out and about. It costs approx £2.
 
Where do I get a sharps box?
 
I order mine from the chemist when I order my normal prescription.

Ask your nurse for a sharps box and also how to dispose of it once it is full. I found it difficult to get anybody to accept my sharps box, in my area.

I have mine on a prescription from GP and when full I phone the council and they collect and dispose of it. Why not give this a try.




Late onset T1, several auto immune issues.
Humalogmix25 twice a day, Methotrexate 25mg once per week, FolicAcid 5mg once per week, prednisolone 5mg daily, Allopurinol 300mg, Calcichew-D3 800iu, Levothyroxine 50mcg, Atenolol 50mg, Losarten 100mg, Aspirin 75mg, Nicorandil 20mg, Nitrolingual GTN spray, Metformin 2000mg, Allimemazine 10mg, Lanzoprazole 30mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, Co Codamol 8/500mg, Depo Medrone (Methylprednisolone) or double Prednisolone for 7 days in case of RA flare.
 
I have a sharps box on my prescription list and my surgery pharmacy takes them when full. I use the box for my lancets and I change them every few days

I don't think many do that, it varies from person to person. I change mine about twice a week but sometimes I forget and it goes on longer!
 
Funny enough some lancet devices have their own safety features...
My dad had these "one use" preloaded on the potential energy lancets that had one harmful protrusion after use.

The six barrel Accu-Chek jobbies have a similar self sheathing design....

Yep, sharps bins with "bio hazard" warnings & clear sharps labelling can be obtained on prescription..
The one I have has a special slot at the top to accommodate the pen needles..
