I assume you have been diagnosed as Type 2. Do you know what your HbA1c figure is? If not you should get it before you see the GP. It should be available online, if not you should ask for a printout of the test results.
Edit: When you see your GP, he/she might suggest you take medication, probably metafornin. It depends on how high your reading is. You can decline and say you would like to try to lower your bs by diet and exercise.
Your GP should ask if you want to be referred for a diabetes management course.
The GP should also refer you to the practice Diabetic Nurse for neuropathy test, and dietary advice.The diabetic Nurse will also refer you for a retinopathy eye test.
You should also be told to make an appointment for another HbA1c blood test in 3 months to confirm the diagnosis.
