I have been worried about this because of my cochlear implant..
I am worried about this alert, because it's supposed to be overriding quite a few settings on your phone. The reason why I am worried is because I remember what happened on my iPhone (although I have Pixel phone now), when I was in my previous car some years ago, and the alerts suddenly went from the iPhone directly to going off into my head and because I was totally surprised and startled I crashed into the wall in front of the car parking space. Apple had done an upgrade that morning, changed all the alerts on the phone so that instead of sounding as though they are emitting from the phone itself, that is outside my cochlear processor they were now directed straight into my head and they were tremendously loud and penetrating and I had not a clue what had happened at that moment.
I cannot find any information on how or if these alerts will override my settings on the pixel phone and someone (a government 'well meaning' hearing person) in their wisdom has decided that all deaf people should unexpectedly get piercing siren alerts directly through their cochlear processers into their skulls, in which case there could be carnage on the roads today.
At that time a few years ago, there were many people who were badly affected and upset from those alerts some years ago with Apple when they changed/overode all the settings on your phone (and there was no advance information) and your cochlear processor, so that you got all Apple alerts straight into your skull. And many many people, at that time, said it was dangerous, especially if driving,or operating machinery etc
I have no idea if the settings for my cochlear processor with the pixel (because on/in the pixel phone it is also my remote control to alter all the settings on my cochlear processor) are going to be overridden by the government to give out these alerts.
And by the way, things change on the pixel phone (for my cochlear processor) each time there are updates and I have to reset my remote in the phone, and also reset the alerts system within the phone settings. You are given no warning something has changed, and it can go straight through to my skull and startle me at inappropriate moments.
I still have a bad memory when Apple did that to me. And so I do not know what to do this afternoon. Do I leave my cochlear processor on, my head says hell no you do not want another thing startling you like that, and you not wanting to wear your cochlear processor for days afterwards. And in any case, if there is a next time they do something like this a general alert, the whole thing will be different and there will be different settings on the phone so I do not need to know that this one could go straight through into my skull.
So I have decided to not wear my cochlear processor today, that's no biggie except for I am expecting a parcel from the rest of the order from yesterday, and consequently I have set up a different kind of visual alert with my email to notify me the whereabouts of my parcel.
A friend has just sent me an email alert which she got from her phone company to explain about this alert today, and it gave a lot of information about it, She should just forward it to me. My phone company has sent me nothing and I don't think that's very good at all.
When I stream something directly to my cochlear hearing processor, I have to turn the phone volume all right down to bottom. Otherwise it is an unimaginable intolerable paralysing racket in my head. A hearing person can at least put their hands over their ears. These alerts are streamed through my processor at full volume, and there is no means of turning an alert down independently, in advance to an appropriate level. I have altered/lowered all the settings I can find.
Sorry to be ranting on about this, but I was unable to find anything specific to my circumstances online.
Anyway my Android phone will be in two faraday bags, and I will not be wearing my cochlear sound processor at all today...
And if the world ends, I will be blissfully unaware..

I turned off the alert in my phone settings. Just turned it back on again - nothing so far.Because of my cochlear hearing processor, and this emergency alert, I turned it off and I wasn't wearing it at the point of the emergency phone alarms going off.
At 3:30 I decided to take my phone out of the Faraday bags. The Android phone had been shut down completely. I waited a couple of minutes, just out of interest to see if the emergency alert had come through while it was out of the Faraday bag, and still completely shut down. Nothing came through, so I turned my phone on, it took a few moments to power up.
Then, guess what happened? The screen came on, and the emergency alert came through. This is just after 3:35 pm by now. I had put my cochlear sound processor on, but I had already set every sound level, and the sensitivity levels to the lowest possible settings, which means I can barely hear anything. But even at that level this alert was extremely unpleasant and penetrating for me. So, 10 seconds, me on the other side of the room, and then the voice...
I walk over to pick my phone up. It would not swipe away off the screen. But the siren and vibration starts all over again...a second time...this time in Welsh. And the words in Welsh. I had an extreme urge to do something to that phone, so I had to go in the garden and sit on the swing a few minutes.
I came back, the message is still sitting on that phone. I had to press OK twice, it led me to another page the first time, before I could get rid of it,
Then I go to check my settings where I turned off Emergency Alerts. And my settings are still in the OFF position. So, doing that hadn't stopped the alert coming through.
That message should not have come through because:
a) Emergency Alerts turned off
b) Phone was shut down totally
c) Phone was in 2 Faraday bags
That goes against everything I had read to do, to protect oneself if their life would be in danger if their hidden phone sounded an alert. That would be a very horrible situation for them to be in. Oh, and my phone was in Aeroplane mode as well when that alert came through.
So, was the phone mast 'waiting' so to speak, to ping (or whatever the expression is) for any new 'straggler' phones that come on after the alert has sounded, and sends the Emergency Alert to them?
I am with 02 by the way, in case different phone companies proceed differently in these alerts.
Sounds like you were lucky...I turned off the alert in my phone settings. Just turned it back on again - nothing so far.
That is horrible @gennepher. The message definitely should not have come through as you had done everything correctly. I hate technology when it does not work as it should. Will the government be collecting this information where this did not happen as they said it would ?That is horrible @gennepher. I heard some people received the alert early so if you had it late I can only assume they sent it as soon as it popped back onto the network. It also, predictably, didn't work properly so some carriers never sent it (several people I know on 3 didn't receive it at all). Tested at 8 this morning. Long gone are the days of 5 and 6 it seems.

The cashier had packed my bag for me. I don't know why but they always put eggs at the bottom. And consequently I forgot as the eggs were unseen to me, and they broke or cracked. So, I put the cracked ones out for the fox. And he still managed to carry them away....

A splendid sketch...Good morning everyone from a weather sampler start here in the dark and dangerous north. Hope everyone is recovering well after all the excitement of yesterday. Good to see my good friend of over 50 years starting the wheelchair marathon. Sadly lost a leg after a football injury that got very nasty. Not certain what I will be involved in today. Mrs Miggins is busy finishing off plans for our annual family weekend which will start on Friday. There will be a walk over part of the Cleveland Way and as we are staying local this year, hopefully fun an frolics with buckets and spades on the beach on Sunday. Art bit, a starting sketch. Hope everyone has a decent day of it. I have had my koffy but as it’s Monday, will go and make some more.
