What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

As usual, system designed by people with no disability for the general population, completely unaware of how they affect the lives of people who are not "the average person".

Libre went on strike this morning (3.45 am - maybe it still needed some sleep) so I had to use the finger prick method. It gave me 10.9. Tried again to check and, this time the Libre worked and gave me 9.3. That's not far off the usual difference. I usually assume a difference of 2 whole points. It kept on rising though, as usual, and was giving 11.6 on the Libre, so about 13 on the finger prick by breakfast. Small breakfast (after insulin) and BG now is 10.9 (Libre) - around 12. So, what now, I wonder. Eat something else with a larger dose of insulin, or just wait and see. It must have something to do with yesterday when BG kept dropping too low and I had to keep on feeding in little snacks to get it up to a reasonable level before bed at 11.30 (6.5). Just me, being odd, as usual.

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, phew what a morning.

Blood Sugars were 6.2 this morning.

Me, me’s and myself loaded up on the carbs last night Nan bread, popadom and home cooked chicken curry. All in aid of the London ( Mordor ) marathon. This morning hydration was the aim, tea and safety koffy, trainers trained, tee shirts ready for the tee off.
What a fantastic experience would I do it again, you bet. 5 1\2 hours sitting on the sofa watching those hero’s and elite runners raising so much money for thousands of charities.

Stay safe all

Because of my cochlear hearing processor, and this emergency alert, I turned it off and I wasn't wearing it at the point of the emergency phone alarms going off.

At 3:30 I decided to take my phone out of the Faraday bags. The Android phone had been shut down completely. I waited a couple of minutes, just out of interest to see if the emergency alert had come through while it was out of the Faraday bag, and still completely shut down. Nothing came through, so I turned my phone on, it took a few moments to power up.

Then, guess what happened? The screen came on, and the emergency alert came through. This is just after 3:35 pm by now. I had put my cochlear sound processor on, but I had already set every sound level, and the sensitivity levels to the lowest possible settings, which means I can barely hear anything. But even at that level this alert was extremely unpleasant and penetrating for me. So, 10 seconds, me on the other side of the room, and then the voice...

I walk over to pick my phone up. It would not swipe away off the screen. But the siren and vibration starts all over again...a second time...this time in Welsh. And the words in Welsh. I had an extreme urge to do something to that phone, so I had to go in the garden and sit on the swing a few minutes.

I came back, the message is still sitting on that phone. I had to press OK twice, it led me to another page the first time, before I could get rid of it,

Then I go to check my settings where I turned off Emergency Alerts. And my settings are still in the OFF position. So, doing that hadn't stopped the alert coming through.

That message should not have come through because:
a) Emergency Alerts turned off
b) Phone was shut down totally
c) Phone was in 2 Faraday bags

That goes against everything I had read to do, to protect oneself if their life would be in danger if their hidden phone sounded an alert. That would be a very horrible situation for them to be in. Oh, and my phone was in Aeroplane mode as well when that alert came through.

So, was the phone mast 'waiting' so to speak, to ping (or whatever the expression is) for any new 'straggler' phones that come on after the alert has sounded, and sends the Emergency Alert to them?

I am with 02 by the way, in case different phone companies proceed differently in these alerts.

Purple sprouting broccoli - another mystery of the age. Pleasant walk through the wood and the pub was open so Mrs Miggins (blue coat) headed straight for it and dragged me in - honest gov. Note: the little building across the road from the pub is the old fishermen’s mortuary - no longer in use.

I turned off the alert in my phone settings. Just turned it back on again - nothing so far.

That is horrible @gennepher. The message definitely should not have come through as you had done everything correctly. I hate technology when it does not work as it should. Very worrying that it looks like some hidden phones would still be sounding the alert.

Will the government be collecting this information where this did not happen as they said it would ?
How do you give them feedback?
But if there was provision for that, would they read it?

But the problem with technology is all the unseen/unpredicted variables. I am not technologically minded, but you have all these different phones from different manufacturers and they are configured differently. And another variable would be the phone companies. For example, I can do the one thing on one phone, my pixel, but doing the same thing on the old iPhone it's different it's not identical.

I heard some people received the alert early so if you had it late I can only assume they sent it as soon as it popped back onto the network. It also, predictably, didn't work properly so some carriers never sent it (several people I know on 3 didn't receive it at all). Not surprised they did not think about people with cochlear implants, the world is very much ableist, and I doubt it will ever change, but I am sorry you had to go through that because some numpties in the civil service couldn't think about people who aren't like them.

Tested at 8 this morning. Long gone are the days of 5 and 6 it seems.

A fox carries an egg..

The cashier had packed my bag for me. I don't know why but they always put eggs at the bottom. And consequently I forgot as the eggs were unseen to me, and they broke or cracked. So, I put the cracked ones out for the fox. And he still managed to carry them away....

Time for a cuppa and a nap.

It was a bit of a mess wasn't it @the-mental-one
Those numpties are incapable of considering others. They have no experience of a world not like theirs, so therefore it doesn't exist...

6.2 this morning. Am so pleased with this reading as I only did 7K steps because of the rain and didn't do my normal after dinner walk to bring down blood sugars.

Less steps definitely help my recovery from the hamstring strain - which is going well.

Very odd, the way some people pack their shopping. Thank you for another smashing lighthouse.

Good morning everyone from a weather sampler start here in the dark and dangerous north. Hope everyone is recovering well after all the excitement of yesterday. Good to see my good friend of over 50 years starting the wheelchair marathon. Sadly lost a leg after a football injury that got very nasty. Not certain what I will be involved in today. Mrs Miggins is busy finishing off plans for our annual family weekend which will start on Friday. There will be a walk over part of the Cleveland Way and as we are staying local this year, hopefully fun an frolics with buckets and spades on the beach on Sunday. Art bit, a starting sketch. Hope everyone has a decent day of it. I have had my koffy but as it’s Monday, will go and make some more.

A splendid sketch...
I might join you in a coffee @dunelm

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and those like me who are recovering from yesterday’s marathon sofa session watching the fit and active run round parts of Mordor.

Todays blood sugars were a late night cheese fuelled 6.6 and I enjoyed the cheese, nuff said.

Apart from a lunch time rendezvous with friends the day is mine to be squandered how I choose. Mrs J will probably have other ideas.

Sorry but apart from @gennepher with her bionic hearing implants I can’t understand what all the fuss is about over the trivial government’s safety warning.

Now have a great day all, stay safe.
