What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

MrSlim has been working on the kitchen. We now have a beautiful ceiling with lights. Next the walls and floor, both have problems, in some places the floor was entirely rotten and has been removed and now needs replacing. Then it needs sanding, filling ( the many wood boring beetle holes) and finishing. There has been a lot of rising damp, due to the drainage issues which we think are now sorted out, but this has left an amount of rotten plaster, which again has been removed. The chimney breast needs... something, I don't quite understand. Our original idea was to put the oven in that space, but it's the wrong height and there is the immoveable granite hearth to fall over when accessing it, so that idea was scrapped.

MrSlim says three weeks, maybe four to complete.
You may remember his preferred next job was the back hall floor, which is in very poor condition, crumbling due to woodworm and rot, and the stairs - rather worryingly the floor has developed some alarming creaks and cracking noises - even when treading on the parts that look good. Cross fingers it lasts another month.

More time in the garden today for me.
Yesterday discovered a very small snail in with my seedlings, it had feasted on all my basil, most of the baby chives and some parsley. Today will be putting in more seeds.

A lot of work to keep you both busy. Snails are frustratingly difficult to control, and there are only so many that you can eat.
 
Good morning everyone on yet an other overcast start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north.
5.6 this a.m.
Mrs Miggins’ new sofa arrived yesterday and a smart thing it is too. I say Mrs Miggins’ as I have my own, a recliner (as long as we are not experiencing a power cut): This is my sofa, there are others like it but this one is mine to paraphrase a line from the film Full Metal Jacket.
I was not at home when said sofa arrived as I went to a presentation given by a paratrooper who was quite near the receiving end of a ship and artillery bombardment that I was controlling back in 1982. We had met for the first time a few months ago at a veterans meet up in Newcastle and spent some time exchanging notes. A rare insight into another persons experiences and how our own decisions may affect others.
Art bit - a bit busy this weekend but here is one of the doodles that my mother does for people who ask her.
Hope your day is a pleasant one. I am mindful that rivers are easier to cross at source. Best make more koffy.

Just got Mrs L out of the shower and dressed.

I know it's not brain doctor's fault if his car broke down, but couldn't he have taken a taxi, and returned to his car after...surely he must have understood the time, effort, and even tears to get Mrs L ready in time...

Actually did turn up at 2.45pm.
It has been now confirmed by the specialist in charge of her case, that the brain scan did not show the markers, confirming that Mrs L has a minor stroke of up to five years ago. (Not a Scooby about that).
The main culprit of the memory issued is the meds, the anxiety, the depression, the inactivity, the loss of stimulus. And obviously, the conscious trying to make sense of it all. And relying on past memories of many years ago to give her the information.

There is a sense of Mrs L getting help.
And if it does, will help me.
More phone calls and appointments.
Oh well!

Weather is awful, rain, windy andcool. Hoping for better weather tomorrow.

I spent a couple of weeks in Antwerp, working. We tried a different restaurant every other night.
And of course, we had to do taste tests of the different cuisine.
Snails are very rubbery chicken, but you do need the sauce.
The best was the Argentine steaks.
And of course Belgian chocolate, just out of the oven.
We happened upon a Chinese eat what you want restaurant. Now that was a taste experience.
But you can't beat a good pan of Scouse, on a a winter's evening.
 
Agree about the snails. It's the rubbery texture I don't enjoy. MrSlim chose snails for his entrée when we are at Les Caisse Graines recently. They came out of their shells, in a sauce, he described them as being soft and delicious, but I still refused to taste, being perfectly happy with my salade of French beans, crayfish and sundried tomatoes.

We have had several days of cold, wet and very windy weather. Pouring rain all day. Very unusual for the first week in June, but yesterday and today we have cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine. Have been wearing polo neck sweater and layers again, back to winter clothing.
Luckily the weather in Paris has been dry, if not sunny for the grandaughters school trip.

MrSlim returned from a trip to the builders merchant with goodies, he prepared a bbq feast with three different salads, tiny sausages and beef brochettes ( that's skewers to you) very tasty and greatly appreciated.
While he was out noticed the two young cats from the doctors house next door in our garden, they shot off as soon as the door opened. However Kiki was not about. Searched the house. She is a creature of habit and has her favourite spots in each room, so a quick look will reveal her. Not in tbe house. No response when i called outside.
This was worrying because last evening she decided to explore the garden to the left which has a double gate sized gap onto a very busy road. Although she demonstrated that she was able to get back over the wall. I had worried it might be too difficult. It's three metres high.
Kiki was missing for several hours, perhaps exploring, but I worried that the
other cats had chased her out of the garden. She eventually emerged from the jungle at the end of the garden and stayed close by me for some time.
Lovely sunny morning here, many weeds need digging up, and veg plants, plus a few small trees to put in the ground. Does anyone else find the most difficult part of gardening is deciding where to plant things?
