6.8 at 03.45 today.

Cold wind out there this morning. I haven't been out but Neil put the recycling bins out and I felt the cold draught when he opened the door.

We have a blackbird pair. Otherwise we'd have some alpine strawberries. They don't mind the cold. We have a raspberry cane still pushing out a few raspberries, which the blackbirds seem to ignore.

Yes, that is so true @jjraak. I foolishly put off adding a screen lock because I thought it would be annoying, but actually it feels so good knowing my devices are safe and it actually isn't as annoying as I thought it would be.

So glad today is now nearly over.

Couldn't describe the eventful really difficult trying day.

Seen our great niece's son, which is obviously our great, great nephew.
Phone calls to and from trying to organise more care for Mrs L. We will see.
Mrs L is improving at times but can be so misremembering things and frustratingly critical or even wrong causing her to be argumentative, and it's my fault and I'm so wrong.
What is new?
My garden is being taken over by spring bulbs appearing amongst the Christmas decorations.
And I'm still getting flowering roses, bedding is spreading and to top it off, the grass needs a trim.
I think we have had only two nights of frost. And another soaking this morning.

Sweet dreams

BG has been all over the place for the last couple of days. Far too high (up into the 15's) and far too low (down to 2.3 at the lowest point). Trying to compensate for the high readings, I seem to be reacting slowly but too much to insulin and then to carbs when it reaches hypo levels.

Em was in today, quite upset over Hugo's demise. The vet allowed her to hold him and pet him as he died. I don't know if that was good for her. It probably was for Hugo though. DIL is already saying that she can't live without a dog in the house. The house feels empty to her, now that Hugo is gone. I suggested that if there is to be another dog, it should be a small one. I gather a French bulldog is a preference. Of course, DIL would like to rehome a dog that has been abandoned or ill treated but the rehoming centres, naturally, won't send a dog to a home it can't inspect and nobody on this Island does such inspections these days - the SSPCA man used to, but not now and the vet used to but, again, not now. Apparently she would like to rehome one of the many staffies that need homes, but that can't be. Just as well, in my opinion - a staffie would not be popular with the neighbours, any more than other dogs they have had.

Although Hugo was "rescued" from a bad situation, it wasn't done through one of the agencies. He was advertised online for sale and DIL bought him directly from his previous owner. So no home inspection was required. The same will apply to any new dog that she buys.

@Annb A dog I had 30 years ago had to be put to sleep...
Vet refused me to stay.
I had words to say to the vet.
He let me stay.
He had no choice...
I could see from her eyes, she was saying, 'Thank you for releasing me to go. '
Yes I was sobbing my heart out. And I am crying now about it. But it was good for me and the dog for me to be there with her at the end....
Just as it was good for Em to be there at the end for both dog and her.
Em is a compassionate young lady.

I do not let any animal, or person die alone, I will be there in the room/location however long it takes...

My daughter in Australia found an injured Roo by the railway track.. Her husband had to bring supplies to her. No one would come to help it, because it was lying on the wrong side of the track...just a few feet on the other side of the track the reservation people would have come out to sort it...
two days later my daughter was furious. She was constantly texting me... finally she got hold of someone who agreed to come out and shoot it because it's lain there for two days in agony. My daughter had sat within a couple of feet of the Roo for two days...the guy shooting the Roo insisted she leave, but as soon as she got over the sand dune, she popped her head back over..... she described her feelings as the gunshot reverberated...and the guy just walked away left it there after he shot it... I had to explain to her that would be food for other animals now, where honestly is he gonna take a large Kangaroo?
But she had developed a bond with the Roo...
