I turned into the toilet paper aisle at the grocery store a few minutes ago and the shelves were nearly empty. Out of curiosity I went over to take a look at the soaps aisle and saw nary a bottle of hand sanitizer, and not many bottles of liquid hand soap. What was funny was that the bar soap section was as full as ever -- apparently no one buys bar soap even in cases of widespread panic.The manager told me that this morning they had not had a single roll of toilet paper in stock.Oh, well, I thought, 160 years ago it was the Yankees, blockading the ports, who were responsible for the shortages. At least they didn't set out to infect the South with yellow fever or smallpox or cholera or bubonic plague. And the Indians before and after them couldn't blockade the entire Eastern Seaboard or the western frontier. At least we still have truck drivers brave enough to deliver toilet paper, and fuel for their trucks.</blockquote>
