Oh, sod it all ... I just had a crazy experience at the pharmacy. They have a sign, five feet from the counter, at eye level, WAIT HERE TO BE SERVED. I stood at the sign. A man came up and went straight to the counter. Then he looked at me. He said, "Oh, I guess I didn't see the sign." The pharmacist came up to the counter to give me my refills. Another man ignored the sign and crowded up behind me. This is against the standard practice, since -- duh -- pharmacy consultations can be personal and confidential. I turned to him and told him to go get behind the sign. "Practice social distancing," I reminded him. He went, but then said, loudly and sarcastically, for all to hear, "Thank you for telling me to get behind the sign." I said, "You're welcome." I turned back to the pharmacist. A pharmacy tech came up to the counter and asked if she could help the obnoxious loudmouth. He came to the counter and said, loudly, for all to hear, "I will stand way over here because she's scared." (looking at me) I turned to him again and said, "For all you know I am contagious. Do you want me to cough all over you?" He shrugged. "I'm not scared." I turned back to the pharmacist. "Can you believe this guy?" She said something noncommittal. What she should have said was something professional and businesslike. Like "Sir, please practice social distancing for your own safety." But she is a young "Southern Lady" and many of those are brought up to defer to men in all things, even women like this pharmacist, who has more degrees than this man has brain cells. What she should have done was back me up. After all I am a regular customer, in the over-65 vulnerable class. I should not have had to do her job for her. Oh, well. Good news is that the store is now opening an hour early 2 days a week for seniors only. They have cut their original hours (6am - 10pm) to 8am - 8pm, and the 7am opening will be great. And at 8am this morning, I'm told, they even had toilet paper! Even at about 10:30 I was able to find some of these, to back up my supply of paper goods: :)
