I'm not sure any major sporting event has ever been devoid of politics, corruption and or repression of the host population. All amped up so that Putin's Ukraine war is painted as abhorrent compared to the noble regime changes and atrocities by "our side." Football in Europe is now all about Champions League rather than International team anyhow. Now there's a whole other can of worms over most of the same issues.</p></blockquote><p></p>
