What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Fasting 5.8
@ 2 hours 40 min (forgot) 7.4

4.2 for me at some point way to early this morning! (can you send children back?!)
5.2 at 10am two-hours post breakfast

Viv,
Sorry to hear you are not having your weekend away after all.....maybe you could sneak off to the Chinese takeaway for a treat instead lol!!

Definately not running with you at the moment, I was 3.8 this morning at 6.30am....no idea how I managed that exactly!!

Regards
Angie

Hello everyone,

Mine were 5.8 this morning which seems to be the norm at the moment. (Was diagnosed about 7 weeks ago so its still a bit new for me).

One thing i'm quite interested in is peoples views on the two hour post breakfast reading. I normally have some porridge with a bit of fruit (some chopped up strawberry for example) and was finding my levels went up to 9 to 10 after a couple of hours but were fine after 4 hours and before lunch.

I've now found that if I give myself my 4 units of Humalog when I get up and then shower, iron a shirt etc and eat about 30 minutes after my jab then the insulin’s head start keeps things more level.

Noticed a lot of people seem to have fairly flat readings after two hours and wondered what approach people were taking.

Thanks

Evening Barry,

You may find that what you are eating for breakfast has two many carbs... most people find that their insulin is least effective in the morning due to the various other hormones that the body releases into the blood stream overnight.

If I look at my carb intake over the day it is split roughly as follows:

15% Breakfast
50% Lunch
35% Dinner

This means that my 2 hour post breakfast spike is minimal... the majority of the carbs I eat are at lunch when my insulin is most effective and when I have most chance of burning them off... and then I have a moderate amount of carbs for dinner to ensure that I go to bed with good readings..

As you will learn what works for one doesn't work for all but diabetes is a lot of trial and error to find out what works for you.

Here are my readings for this morning:

5.4 Fasting
7.3 @ 2 hours
Breakfast joghurt and 50g fresh mango - maybe not suitable? Strawberries or raspberries would have been better if I'd had some available. Multiple cups of coffee with cream.

Nice sunny day here, a bit chilly

Hi Daisy,

Are your numbers better when you stick to temperate fruits as opposed to tropical ones? The G.I. of temperate ones is usually less than the tropical ones.

Catherine
Strawberries and raspberries are fine for me but don't always last overnight in the fridge. When I have them at other times of the day my levels are good but I can't compare with tropical fruits as I haven't had them at any other time of the day. I think tropical fruits have more sugar in them though. I only have 50g though which makes about 8g carbs depending on the fruit. It's a small portion. It all depends on which fruits survive the night.

That was a lovely post yesterday by the way. You know the one I mean.

Hi Daisy,

Have you tried the frozen berries? They are quite cheap here and if you forget to take them out of the freezer you can always zap them in the microwave.

It had to be said Daisy.

4.6 for me today...

Still no 'off' switch... and she turned herself 'on' at 4:15am this morning! joy

I've just looked and discovered I've already got some frozen berries in the freezer! My husband bought them. When I've finished up the mango (it was a big one and I don't want to waste it!) I will get the berries out and try them. It should work out better for my levels but I will still have the tropical fruits sometimes as I like some variety and they are delicious. I can't take cereals or toast at all and I'm not keen on bacon and eggs for breakfast.

7.1 fasting
7.3 two hours after breakfast

Went out anyway last night, to a friend, and shared a bottle of wine and a shepherd's pie  .

Was therefore very please to have a fasting reading of 5.5 at 08:30 today. That's the highest for 3 weeks. I stopped the Noritryptilene yesterday - it will be interesting to see if it has been affecting my BG levels.

5.8 for me this am.. Lowest in a while.. I like not being on the Lantus anymore -- but the dawn effect is more evident. Still losing weight which will pull those am fastings even more in line eventually. Pre breakfast and dinner and after exercise are all still around 5.0 - so that means my pancreas is capable of handling my basal needs -- and it's just the 'poor First Phase Insulin response' that's broken that give many of us poor am numbers. Our livers dump in the am to wake us up -- very natural human thing for all people - so Dawn effect is nothing more than a 'post meal spike' of sorts.. after a massive liver dump. No different than eating a candy bar. Bummer though.. All other numbers of mine are just great.. 5.0-7.7

After day one of walking the suburbs, 'cos I am being employed on a casual basis as a Census Collector/Deliverer, I recorded another 4.1 (yesterday was 4.5).

These were yesterday's levels...

Here are my readings for this morning:
Fasting 6.7
@ 2hours 30 mins 6.8
This shows my breakfast was OK. But yesterday morning I had an identical breakfast - to the gram - and had a large rise in levels. Difficult to work out this BG business
