What's everyone's take on this ?

Six grand for a dog? Wouldn't a CGM be cheaper & more discreet....?

It seems entirely reasonable to me that the college ask for a doctor's note. I'm not sure why they're making such a public fuss.
It's not as if the college are refusing to let them use the dog.

"Our policy states that only dogs accredited by Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK) – an alliance of seven organisations – or specific international assistance dog organisations can be accommodated on campus"

And her dog isn't so the college is asking for further assurances. This seems reasonable to me. Firstly, they have to have a definition of what counts as an assistance dog; secondly, they need to make sure the dog is appropriately trained for the safety of all on campus.

I don't get why the family in question didn't simply get the letter that's required and be done with it. Unless it was the case that the college was letting, say, blind people use 'non-approved' dogs and it was only this young lady's dog they were fussing about, then there is no discrimination.

It seems that the college are being reasonable and accommodating but the nightmare of a mother wants what she wants and wants it now.

Just get the doctors letter woman and stop looking for a compensation claim.

Perfectly reasonable in my opinion, just get the letter - she says her daughter is embarrassed by the college, putting it out on the net for all to see must be far more embarrassing

Hi, it`s all to do with insurance as usual, it seems rather petty but if she provides a note then there shouldn`t be any problem.

That's what it will be,a letter from the young lady's Dr or Consultant is all it will take to resolve the matter.

I have a trained green sabre toothed horse that lets me know when I'm low.. Most public transport & building officials take issue with it.
But I have a back up if refused entry...

... My wife is well trained too! :D

Thanks for everyone's comments. I posted this after seeing it online for my local paper this morning, before going in to EDI training ( Equality diversity and inclusion) and thought it was quite apt. Personally I felt that there was no discrimination just that the college had no policy on unaccredited dogs so needed to ensure all bases where covered. If a non accredited dog attacked another student they would get slammed for not taking precautions.
