After months of a fairly low carb diet; no bread, no pasta , no pastries, no cereal, small amounts of rice and potatoes etc and getting my hbA1c down to 5.5, I decided to experiment with some high carb foods. Over the last couple of months it seems that no matter what I eat, my blood sugar after two hours is normal - without exception !! I started with things like bacon/sausage sandwiches (white bread). I've had Curries with a full portion of rice and Nan bread, Singapore Chow mein, Fish and Chips, The other evening I even had Steak and Kidney Pie. chips and mushy peas with a piece of bread and butter..My reading after two hours ? 5.4 !! I had fish and chips tonight and my BS was 5.6 ! Whats going on ? I mentioned it to my doctor who merely said ''Its the Metformin''. Metformin alone couldn't do that could it ? Of course I dont do it all the time, my lunch today was lamb steaks, Spinach. Cauliflower and one roast potato, but i'm in danger of thinking 'perhaps I'm not diabetic after all even tho my hbA1c on diagnosis was 10.2 ! Any ideas people ??

hehe been there done that! you have given your pancreas a break and it is working better for the holiday, but beware as far as medical science is concerned diabetes is not reversable so unless your a medical breakthrough you are still diabetic, id love to be wrong! but i suspect if you went back to eating the old way long term you would see those numbers going back up, so if your bgs are good and you can tolerate food well, then great enjoy but keep an eye on your diet and bgs (all opinion) :)

Exactly the same has happened to me bluenose.
I've been very low carbing but I decided on a couple of meals out to just enjoy myself and not be overly strict. A couple of hours after I tested myself and was around 6%.

Last night I ate exactly 65g of carbs contained in a box of chocolates. Just had the munchies!
Reading one hour later was 5.2%,

I like Andy's explanation and I'm back on low carb today.

10g for brekkie and 8g for lunch - dunno about dinner yet but low.

I'm gonna continue low to moderate carb but enjoy myself (sensibly) when eating out. I will always test myself 2 hours after eating out so I can keep an eye on my control.

I was 7.4% on diagnosis which is lower than most so maybe that gives more leeway??

I won't take my eye off the ball though.

Good luck.
