The website and phone number for the freestyle libre in the uk is not working (it says out of stock and on calling that calls cannot be taken). Does anyone know what is happening with this product?

Demand has outstripped supply, think they are struggling to cope and didn't anticipate how popular this device would be.

Oops, just installed my last sensor, hope they get stock in over the next week.

Just had a thought, the adhesive on the sensors seem to be less on the last three sensors ( the last one fell off) and at the beginning the removal of the sensor would take off skin.

Has anyone else noticed this?

God. This is not good. I just (got desperate and) paid through the nose for a reader from ebay. I figured, owning the device, I could give them a serial number and get an account for ordering sensors from the official site. No?
No. Unless you are a registered user, you can't buy the sensors from Abbott. No-one on e-bay tells you this. You have just paid through the nose for something that you can't use. Sorry. The demand for sensors is where the issue lies, not with the readers.

I have just phoned Abbott regarding a sensor that came unstuck after 5 days. I got through straight away and they are sending me a replacement. They seem to be functioning efficiently again.

If what Tim has stated is correct, then contact the eBay seller and ask them to get the sensors for you or refund you the payment using PayPal.

There is a real issue with the glue they use; I have to use opsite tape to keep my sensors on otherwise they just fall off it you go running or get mildly sweaty which is rubbish really.

I hope they sort this out because this makes them no good for anything; it's a fundamental flaw in the idea.

I can handle the slightly vague readings they give (as it's the overall patterns that I'm interested in) but I can't handle that, the price and now the glue failing. It makes them pointless in my opinion.

Having said that they did replace mine pretty quickly when I called.

But seriously... Abbott are one of the few companies in this industry that now have my undying respect. IF they can get their supply chain working and deliver the thing to sufferers, that is...

..........and sort out all the issue that users have been having with sensors :)

So much for years of research into understanding diabetes and the needs of those who suffer from it, huh? ;)

I've heard that when Abbott developed it, instead of asking DSNs or patients, they asked consultants and they thought they were Good but advised that they wouldn't be popular!! But I've also heard that they're catching up very quickly and it shouldn't be long to wait now for new customers.

I live in France with type 1 for 43 years and very good health. My diabetic specialist suggests I buy a Freestyle Libre but I cannot get any response from the French site as they say no stock of starter pack. I could buy from UK but prefer to measure in mg/l. and I suspect the UK systems are fixed for mmol/l? Does any know if UK are selling starter packs? Thanks.

You can configure the libre for either mg or mmol, so it does not matter where you buy your libre.

Also I think the starter pack is no longer available, you need to buy the reader and two sensors separately.

You need to register your email address and then abbott will send you an email when they are available for you to buy. There was quite a long waiting list, but I think it is now reduced to about 8 weeks may be even shorter.

Bonne chance

No, you can't. It comes preset for the country where you are ordering.

Tim is correct the settings are in mmol for uk devices.

Sorry should have checked before posting. Was sure I had seen this under the professional settings but it is not.

Many thanks for your comments. Today I logged onto the French site for a diabetic forum (vivreavecundiabete.com) and found a letter from Abbott saying they would contact all those who have registered in the course of January or February. I tried to check the site to make sure I was logged on and could not get any responce. My companion then tried to log on as a new entry and was told they are not accepting any new enquiries but they would send her a mail when it was open again. So we wait in hope, one gets accustomed to doing that living in France. I had an extra glass of my own wine for lunch to celebrate....!!
