Whats the first record/CD you bought ?


Yay, tainted love..... anna and Wigan casino ( did you go anna) ? always wanted to go but wasn't wasn't allowed, too far way I answered two questions on Northern soul artists on University challenge this week, so chuffed as the young boffins didn't get one right lol . It's still going today, the older ones still dress in the same type clothes and dance all night, there is an advert on the TV, incorporating a male N soulie I did like Paul Young and some of Roxy music too,
 

We went to Blackpool Mecca soul nighter's - I loved it too .
Just loving you , house for sale , heaven in the afternoon , party time man , 9 times , year of decision

My mate Janet loved chasing all the bad boys - I couldn't stand them (I always got the gentlemen)
Being deaf - I felt the tempo beat and rythmn easily .
Could lip read all the hollering around me far more easier than the rest of them !
Used to dance my little heart out and legs till they near dropped off .
Met some real characters too . (handed a few over to my mate Janet!)

Roxy music - Slave to Love is well groovy !
Who remembers Soley soley ?

Frank Wilsons' 'Do I Love You(Indeed I Do)' is a great up tempo that is always a favourite on compilations.

'Tainted Love' by Gloria Jones (?) is the one your on about not the eighties cover by Soft Cell(?) that's off the top of my head!

Nothing wrong with the top of your head Nosher, Soft Cell is right.
 
Well, I didn't actually buy it, but my brothers bought a Dansette and Mum bought Joe Brown Picture of You, Kitty Lester Love Letters and Pat Boone Speedy Gonzalez..

First LP I bought was Are You Experienced Jimi Hendrix from Sound of Music in Market Parade in Havant.

I love that version of Tainted Love.
 
My kids had a night out there and have threatened to take me as well as going to motown soul nights in Liverpool.
Don't think my legs could take the toe tapping now.
So many great bands and singers!

Anyone seen or heard drizzabone soul family? Modern soul and doing the clubs for a while now, have a listen, there good.

I want to mention bands like Junior Walker, Harold Melville, Geno Washington, SOS band, Archie Bell, Bar Kays and Curtis Mayfield. These bands often only club bands don't get the recognition they deserve for promoting Northern Soul.

The best funk band has to be Earth, Wind & Fire. Unbelievable show!
 
Have you seen the recent Northern Soul film? It was in the cinema and released on DVD at the same time
