Hi All.
I generally drink water and tea (milk no sugar) when at work, squash (no added sugar) when at home and Diet Coke if socialising. I've read various things about sugar free drinks. Any advice on this - Is my intake okay or should I be avoiding diet drinks due to the aspartame etc.?
Also, when out for a special occasion I drink vodka Diet Coke. Again not sure if this is advisable or there are better alternatives? Thanks in advance :)

I have a *thing* about artificial sweeteners, they are bad for the gut biome but occasional use is acceptable to a lot of people. Evidence shows that sweeteners can fool the brain i.e you drink a no sugar can of pop and your body expects sugar/carbs, when they are not forthcoming the brain sends messages that you are hungry and must eat the carbs you 'lost'. So some people can actually gain weight while drinking and eating these 'no added sugar' drinks and foodstuffs.

I am tee total but I have read that vodka is one of the preferable shorts to have, it is beer, ale and lager that are said to be baddies.

Fairly similar except I have my tea very strong with just a drop of milk usually. We're all generally advised to reduce fizzy drink intake but one or two cans with a meal now and then isn't the end of the earth to me. I've always found the sugary varieties have a nasty sweet taste and prefer the no sugar varieties conveniently.

Alcohol wise I'll occasionally have a few lagers; again with a meal or socialising or my spirit go to is whiskey (usually with a snack nowadays).

I'm contemplating having a few beers and a couple of shorts tomorrow.
Gave it a miss last saturday: first time in years.
Coors Lite Beer and Vodka and Fanta Orange Zero.

If I can I'll stick to about 4 Beers and a couple of very large shorts.

Pork Scratchings and a few peanuts for nibbles.

Water makes up the majority.
Dubonnet! Sometimes in a long glass with really cold lemonade...

It's entirely up to yourself whether you avoid them or not, we buy the Robinson No Added Sugar squash, I particularly like the Orange & Mango drink.

As an alternative to normal tea try having a Green Tea, its really nice but stay clear of some of the cheap brands such as Clipper.

Also nothing wrong with plain old water, if your tap water tastes awful just buy some bottled water, the shop Iceland often have some great offers on.

Nothing quenches my thirst unless it's pure fruit juice with added water wether fizzy or plain I don't know why this is so. I like Diet Coke rather than max as it tastes too sweet I hate drinks that taste very sweet always have, why don't they have sweet taste reduced drinks it would train your taste buds. I find lager quenches my thirst but if I have 2 I feel unwell one is enough. When socialising I drink medium white wine I do like a Black Russian vodka and coke rum and brandy is a no go area as brandy triggers heartburn and rum makes my thirst worse. When out for a meal I always have water as well as the wine. I always feel better with a coffee somehow I drink lots of it and black. Not saying that is the right thing to do but that's how I feel.

I have black coffee with breakfast a and 'elevensies' and sparkling mineral water for the rest of the day. At the weekend's I enjoy a glass or three of red wine or prosecco. All tinned fizzy drinks are far too sweet for me. I am experimenting with green tea at the moment.

I drink a lot of ice cold tap water, a few cups of tea with a dash of milk, one decaf coffee with cream, and red wine before and during evening meal.

I drink black coffee, black tea, water, low carb beer, red wine, single malt whisky.

I do not drink soft drinks, either fizzy or non fizzy.

No alcohol for me or squash. I run on tea. If in a bar then Diet Coke/Pepsi.

Gin with ice and a splash of water, Korean Soju, awamori or whisky/ vodka all drop my bg considerably, red wine and dry white drop it somewhat, lager seems neutral, and I haven't tried any testing on any of the thicker beers or ales. Be careful with rums and brandies coz they can have a surprising amount of sugar added after distillation
