I am wondering if there is an optimal time to take Metformin. I'm also on Glicazide. Should I take it before a meal, after or during.
I get liver dumps in the early hours of the morning and am wondering if I should take Metformin at bedtime. My pharmacist said it
didn't matter when, but I've learned the people in this group have a wealth of experience. What do you think??

I find for me taking both metformin and glimepiride with my late evening snack, works well typically 9-10pm then 9am in the morning I tailor my medication to the sort of month I plan on having, for the next 2 month I'm using the above, but then I plan to go to the gym in 6-8 weeks time at around the 4am so once I've recover from surgery I'd switch times to 3am and 3pm, I normally take them 5-10mins before food, as that is normally how long it takes me to get the food ready.

I do tend to just trail and error, until I find what suits me, I've only been back on metformin for the past month, I'm also taking gilimipride at night which I find helps avoid the liver dump, but I'm extra careful to make sure I eat well enough to avoid the possibility of a hypo as glimepiride is a sulphonylurea.

I'm on met and glic - I take both mine when I'm having my breakfast and my evening meal - met works differently from glic as in it builds up in your system so your chemist is right really it doesn't matter when you take it as long as it's roughly the same time every day. It's best to take it with meals if you have tummy issues with it - I take mine with meals for convenience

From my DN. Take it with meals. From other posters on here. Take the SR version with meals. There are sometimes side effects involving stomach problems and the SR version is kinder.
