Hi darleen.
As a type2 as your profile states, they do try tablet meds firstly its only with severe reactions to tablets or if your BG levels REMAIN too high and theyve exhausted all other options that 'insulin' is considered.
As was the case with ME . Metformin in all formulas, gliclazide, januvia[sitaglyptin] , failed to get my high BG levels down .
It was a good 12months of time trying all these other meds before it was clear the only option left for me was and is 'insulin' .
I can honestly say I did feel so wearily drained and tired till I got on a 60unit split dose of levemir insulin then I quickly felt and saw some improvement .
It is best to take it one step at a time try combining a healthy diet with active lifestyle plus use the time to read up on things too.
Gaining more information and knowledge as you go along the way, I do this, its the best way to learn as you go!

Life on insulin is tricky as you have to slot it in your everyday life.
At first its fresh new and bit of a novelty , then it slowly bcomes a 'MUST' in your life!
I cant function without it now...
