Hi,

I have been on Metformin SR for a while now and although my Hba1c is going down thanks to low carbing I always have morning highs. I can wake up with BS of 8-9-10 and it takes me till early afternoon to get these back down. I was just having a look around the web and found this information;

http://www.diabeticlivingonline.com/mon ... d-glucose/

"Overnight, the liver and muscles get the message from excess glucagon to ramp up the glucose supply because the person is sleeping, not eating," says Marty Irons, R.Ph., CDE. "There is not enough GLP-1, insulin, or amylin hormones to stem the tide of excess glucose from the liver and muscles, essentially throwing this feedback loop out of whack."

High fasting blood sugar levels, particularly in the earlier years of type 2 diabetes, result from this hormonal imbalance. Evening meals and snacks may get the blame for morning highs, but hormones are the likely cause.

Im now wondering if it might be more beneficial to take my 1 metformin with my evening meal to try to cope with my bodys overnight activities? I also find that I tend to have pretty vivid dreams which I believe can be linked to high BS? So maybe this would help.

When do you take your medication?

Hi. If you read the Met SR leaflet it generally says to take the whole days tablets at one time; I don't think it says when? My prescription says to split the dose am and pm. If you Google the web you will find that with SR you can be very flexible but as it only works slowly you can't really avoid an effect during the night. I think you will find that whatever you do with the Met SR your liver will still make it's own decision to dump or not. Morning readings are not very reliable as a result and the more useful readings are 2 hours after a meal and your HBa1C.
