hi - having been only diagnosed with T2 this morning I am struggling to come to terms with the implications of all of this - and basically would appreciate any advice on where on earth I start with what, how, when etc... apart from going to Waitrose and buying a low carb range of food stuffs I find this all very daunting... :(

Early days desert bear so don't panic. Read the information for newly diagnosed on here as it is very good. I'm sure someone will come along and post it shortly.

I found the 'Diabetes for Dummies' book a good starting point as it has a lot of information that is useful to the newly diagnosed. I still remember how scared I was when I was told "you are diabetic" now dealing with it on a daily basis has become second nature to me and I'm sure the same will be true for you. As Jane has said the 'info for the newly diagnosed' given out on this forum is excellent and will point you in the right direction as to how to get to grips with it all.

There is a lot of information to take in when you are first diagnosed but just keep reading everything you can lay your hands on about diabetes and soon it will all fall into place. Anything you are unsure about just ask here in the 'Ask A Question' board and it is normally not long before someone will help.

I am always amazed at the knowledge base there is on this forum

3 weeks into all this and I really am very grateful to so many posters for educating me. I'm fortunate in having a very proactive GP and combined with my positive attitude and wanting to be in control feel as if I am on top of things. Early days tho...

Gone from a bulky 108kgs down to 98kgs thanks to a steady low carb diet ; BS down from 14.8 to 6.5 fasting and 7.5 post eating and i've not felt as healthy in years...exercise next....If anyone wants to get to grips with a low carb diet, buy a little booklet from Collins called Carb Counter..... and for a generally good overview of Diabetes and all it involves read 'Diabetes for Dummies'.

Keep up the excellent posts and comments - it helps more than I would ever have thought... :D

Thats great progress desertbear, congratulations
