Does anyone know if Whey protein drinks (less than 1 gram of carbs per serving) good for diabetics? I am trying to regain some muscle that I lost being in a leg cast for almost 8 weeks. Being a predominantly vegetarian (occasional eggs and fish - probably Eggs probably 3 to 5 per week, Fish probably twice a week) my daily protein intake is definitely on the lower side. I find it difficult to increase frequency of eggs & fish. So, I am wondering if I have one serving of whey protein drink per day, it would give me around 25 grams of protein each day. I am about 74 Kilos right now. I tried reading some old threads, but it is not very clear if there are any clear pros / cons with whey protein drinks on blood sugar levels.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

That should not affect bgl by itself if it is just one gram carb per serving. My father with diabete type 2 takes whey protein with 2g carbs per serving first thing after he wake up with some tomato and 150ml milk in a blender. Great way to add some quality protein to diet for a diabetic.

I use one that has very little in it.... if I make a drink, I add maybe 10-20g, depending on situation. I add a Tbls of a good peanut butter to it and some sugar free chocolate drink mix to and a bit of stevia to taste. I use unsweetened almond milk.

The only way you will know the impact of a decent protein powder on your bgl is to test and see what you get.

great... thanks... i tried just mixing in water and drinking it... no spike... so that is good. I remember reading somewhere it probably encourages insulin production in body... not sure if that’s helpful or adds to insulin resistance though...
