Type 2, insulin dependent, one failed kidney. Family want to buy me a CGM. My research suggests it is between Freestyle Libre and Dexcom. Both have relatively newer versions on the market - FL3 and Dex7.
Can anyone help me with advise on these devices.

There is not a best CGM, there is the best CGM for you. And newer does not mean better,
If you are based in. The UK, you will find that the Libre 3 is not available to purchase.
As for the Dexcom, there are a couple of newer ones to choose from Dexcom one and G7. They have different features. I recommend reading up on them and deciding what is important to you,

The other thing to consider is that you don’t but one CGM. At most, they last 2weeks.

if you want to try one out, you could apply for the free Libre 2 trial.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I don’t know about the Dexy. But the freestyle Libre 2 can be bought over the counter at a pharmacy.

When I was self funding, Asda pharmacy had them.
The libre also work with aftermarket apps as a “CGM” which effectively removes the need to scan with NFC, after the initial start up using a compatible mobile device like a phone.

Hope this helps.

The libre 3 will show you projected a1c where the 2 will not but I've had a lot of issues with both the libre and had to exchange several times although the customer service is excellent. I will now try a dexacom 6 in hopes of a more reliable experience. Good luck.
