I haven't been feeling well for a few days so, wasn't too surprised when I did my b.s levelswere 15.5, very high for me (now), so I re tested same finger on my left hand as opposed to my right, b.s were 12.4.?? very confusing, I understand there is a variable but by 3 is a lot, which one do I correct by, I corrected by the lower level as I don.t want a hypo, so frustrating when this happens, but can anyone explain this and have I corrected for the right reading??

A blood meter can be +/-20% out, 20% of 15.5 is infact 3.1 so that reading could have hit the 20% above limit if the 12.4 was spot on (unlikely! - the 12.4 was probably somewhere within the 20% under limit)

It is up to you whether to correct using either the higher or lower reading or an average of both, if you are worried about over correcting then go by the lower one.

The lower reading is too high, the upper one is, er, more too high. Isn't that enough information? You ate or drank something that spiked you and presumably you don't want to do it again. What was it?

that was as soon as I woke up this morning, nothing to eat or drink, my b.s before bed last night was 8.4, had nothing from 8pm woke up 8am.

Had you eaten anything around 7-8 pm night before which you bolused for, if yes could have miscalculated dose and continued to rise from that till 11-12pm. If not, could of been poor injection site, or your basal is insufficient for overnight - worth checking that either way if not recently done.

not eaten anything, just had a mug of tea as I usually do, b.s been fine all day again 5.2 lunchtime, 6.3 teatime, really weird happens every so often.

high BG's in morning is associated with Dawn phenomenon -- this can usually be sorted by basal testing and then adjusting basal upwards and / or early rise( getting up early ) and test and correction bolus to bring down as quick as poss.
