@cdpm there are unfortunately not that many regular posters who are T2 on insulin, and the T1s like me are possibly a bit nervous about giving you T1 advice rather than T2 advice. (Specially given that forum rules say we can't give medical advice). How many injections of basal insulin are you on a day?
Do your health team respond to emails? You could ask them for a link to their recommended way to do basal testing.
Naively I would have guessed that doing a test when you wake up would be enough, the important thing is to not have eaten for a good few hours before testing and to be consistent about when you test. (Others may disagree?)

Are you still using a cgm or fingerpricking?
