Which glucometer to choose

Well it does ketones ( keytones ) not sure how you spell it. This requires different strips but both come in the box. When I was in the NHS hotel, they did monitor my ketones, but haven't tested them since I left as was told I didn't need to.

I agree it would be great if everyone is treated the same.
From my understanding, everyone on insulin (which is all T1s) has a meter and funded test strips.
Otherwise, it is a bit of a lottery.

SD Codefree used for two years. Cost of test strips was my deciding factor. Self funded

Absolutely well said, but are we surprised at the general overall appalling situation of THE DIABETES WORLD

HERE IN MALLORCA, spain, same situation, my Doc "and I had to ask if I needed to check my fingers and monitors etc", said they are not supplied buy your own!. Yes a friend who was diagnosed same week is supplied a monitor.

Lets put it ALL into perspective, are the monitors that important, I am not a Doctor, speaking from commonsense researches done from reputable zones, you check your finger, and what, it shows a number that should meet a criteria of cut off for either
fasting, random anytime after breakfast, and/or 2 hour after eat. Everyone waits anxiously watching the numbers on a monitor countdown asking "am I below the cut off, normal, on the cut off, pre or diabetic range!!!

What everyone forgets, is we are testing on numbers that are ARBITRARY SET, no medical or clinical support to my knowledge, the ADA and Who and others acknowledge that the numbers are arbitrary at whim at random, chosen and lessened as the so called experts decide, but in lowering any number, at whim, random, for whatever reason, that results frighteningly, thousands of people suddenly that were normal range, to pre or diabetic!!!!!! just because a number changes, so my question is how can one or anyone TRUST the numbers in place,

What is to say the cut off for fasting should be 140mg/dl for example as it was in 1998 before the ADA brought it down to 110, and then down 100!!!!!!

If the Diabetes experts, system, general world cannot produce cut off figures for the world to follow a strict guide line of clinically and not arbitrary numbers for us to use our meters against, why bother testing in the first place.

Instead, simply change lifestyle, eat less carbs and don't eat carbs of potatoes rice, pasta, bread, exercise more, ones best medicine can sometimes be in ones own hands at the end of the day.

I have a monitor, and its fabulous called Genteel!!! it is a suction lancing device, no pain, no pressing to get blood out of the finger, no sore fingers, you can use it on top of the knee, palms of hand, inner or outer arms, and even has device if one wants to continue finger pressing, again, no pressing of blood and absolutely pain free. Go to Google and put in Genteel and see this wonderful device.

2 Doctors here have informed, not worth checking fingers daily, or whenever, as only the A!C is the Gold and God, frankly, I don't agree that A1C is Gold or God it has irregularities and flaws and inaccuracies, but that's another story, and for finger testing, I agree until THE ARBITRARY CUT OFF NUMBERS that we all base our numbers and results from our monitors are controlled and supported by medical and clinical backup as to why that number is chosen for MEDICAL PROOF OF EVIDENCE AND NOT FOR WHIM RANDOM, CHOICE, then I have chosen not to test, and if I do an odd time, its every 3 months!! if that......and guess what, as I put my Metformin prescribed on arbitrary number down the toilet, took change of lifestyle, exercising and intermittent fasting 3 times a week, eating wonderful keto recipes and foods, my numbers every three months are CONSISTENTLY I REPEAT CONSISTENTLY THE SAME, INDICATING, no medications, change of lifestyle are keeping my sugar levels at the same level even three months apart!!!!! that indicates its not just a good day, its consistent.

So off you go, the choice is yours, if Diabetes do not supply monitors to all one has to ask why, do we assume they are given to those who have more higher sugars than others who are viewed more priority or important, if so, this is appalling,.
if one is diagnosed Diabetes, then ALL should be provided with monitors worldwide, as simple as that, to allow people to check their fingers if they wish.

Happy Deciding, but you have a good point raised, and the diabetes world has to take such situations on board instead of pushing them under the carpet inmy personal opinion.

The best monitor that I personally feel is the most sophisticated and less painful is GENTEEL, go to google, put in Genteel and see this amazing device. You can test inner outer arms, palms hand, 3 inches up from knee anywhere, and has a separate device that can do finger testing to, if preferred, there is no squeezing out blood, sore fingers,no pain, its a system of suction, lancing device, and its amazing really amazing way if one wants to check their sugar levels.

Why such device is not supplied by the Diabetes World associations, I don't know, why have thousands and millions of people, suffering some with anxiety of paintful fingers, dilemma to test having to push squeeze out blood, to think you have this pen, hold it as a pen, press a button hold down, see your blood come up, release button and put into monitor for results, is amazing............
