which supplements are worth having?

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
For most of my life, I have not taken any dietary supplements, believing that a balanced diet was sufficient. Recently I have decided to try ALA, Benfotiamine and Evening Primrose.. I'm also trying to get my T1, multi complication husband to takethese in the hopes of improving his kidney function. I'm low carb myself and managing to get husband's carbs down a bit. At last, he doesn't believe the diabetes consultant any more. So I'm not meeting so much resistance.
Who is sure that theirsupplements areworking? I don't know in my own case, because I'm always well anyway.
 
I take supplements,Hana but I suppose the only way I could say they were working is to stop taking them and see what happens!
 
Gucosamine/Chondroitin

I developed tennis elbow soon after the beginning of the tennis season AFTER I had paid my subscription. I tried Gucosamine/Chondroitin & was comfortable within a month. I take it daily now. I also take a standard vitamin/mineral supplement & EPA fish oil. I add cinnamon to my porridge, & to the gravy.

For cholesterol, I use Benecol/Flora Pro-V, oat bran & almonds as recommended by Ally. My chol dropped from 7.6 8 years ago, to a steady 5, so that does work. Its now has dropped to 4.3 with reduced carb.
 
I have really been looking into this recently and think it might be time to start taking a few extra's. I had heard about the almond thing so I need to get some in next time I go grocery shopping. The only thing I really use is cinnamon at the moment.

I've recently started taking a garlic supplement, with some surprisingly good results.
Have been able to drop my bolus doses by around 20% :shock: . You do need to be
careful about interactions between garlic and other meds(including lantus) though.

I've also been doing a bit of reading up on antioxidants recently, after reading about the link
between oxidative stress(caused by hyperglycemia) and diabetic complications.
Most antioxidants can be obtained through diet, but there are some which will need to be
taken as a supplement.
